That is exactly what I was thinking about when I read this... and the cool cover on the paper back that had Friday with her top zipped down to her belly button...:-)
Hey, I know, even if you don't read the freaking article, how about reading the damn exerpt of what you are responding to??
"In terms of domain names hosted Linux has an even greater lead, with over 1.1 million domaines. Solaris follows with about 850,000 names, of which 180,000 are hosted on just two Solaris boxes"
If anything is "proved" it's that Solaris is the one that scales to large systems.
We use mulit-cast to do system o/s installs and software installs. It is really cool actually. You use a boot disk that is pre-configured to listen for a 'start up' packet. I love watching a room full of systems all installing at the same rate at the same time... especially the reboots.
The third is to simply put a prettier face on the system, making the user feel more comfortable. However, this doesn't make the system any less complex or difficult to understand; it simply paints the system with prettier colors.
This is the reason that N.T. has a bad reputation for being unstable. The GUI Admin interface makes new admins *think* they know what they are doing without actually learning anything about what is going on behind the scenes.
This is OK for simple things, but not more for more complex tasks.
I learned more during my first edit of the Apache httpd.conf than I ever learned using IIS.
This has to be one of the most accurate and well thought out posts on the realities of NT vs *nix.
I have seen *good* NT admins who understood the strengths and weaknesses of the system do some great things. And the same with *good* *nix admins. I think the reason NT gets such a bad namme is that the GUI makes it too easy to *think* you know what you are doing without understanding what is really going on in the background. There are a lot of mediocre NT admins who don't know that there is more to the system then rebooting it.
The second problem is that most (not the good ones) NT admins believe that the box can run an infinite number of services all at the same time without effecting the system. Hah. NT is very stable if you do a default install, patch it , run 1 service, and leave the monitor disconnected so it is harder for a junior admin to try to install a new screen saver:-)
BTW, before the coyotes nip at my heals I am a Sun/Linux/AIX admin, not NT... just work in the real world where you use the best tool for the job.
Because it costs *them* money to send me junk mail. Also, you can normally get a legit address from junk mail, so if it bugs you enough you can at least have a reasonable chance at letting them know what a bunch of loosers they are. Also, as the article said, there are laws governing junk mail and explicit sexual material, but not spam.
I *think* that is the whole point of being Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) compliant.. so that they will work with any cable data system that is DOCSIS.. but I don't know that for sure. I wonder if TW/RR will be providing these as part of their rentals.. since it is against their TOS in most markets to run a NAT. (not that I know of anyone that lets that stop them..)
PLEASE tell me you are kidding to cover up the fact that you are full of shit on this specific issue.... Have you ever actually been *in* a glass house? When we do our yearly UPS maintanence on a holiday weekend we have folks come in in the middle of the night just because it is such a rare thing to see the IBM *off*...
Even though the article seem to infer it, PCCard (pcmcia) modems could still be a winmodem. I have a dell cpx that shipped with a 3com Megahertz 56k WinModem PC Card model 3cxm356. I don't know why they just don't build them into the system.. (I hate the stupid dongle)
The article says the latest data they have is from June... But the rest of your points are very valid.. I mean, so the plant operators get a bunch of overtime. At least I won't be the only one working thru NewYears.
Nope. Sorry, but we are nowhere near that organized. Actually, the 3 letter agency I work for uses linux for our top level domain DNS servers. I just bought 100 servers from Dell and did not get NT, instead we went with Solaris X86 (the product we are going to use them for does not support linux.. yet) But we are required to use MS Exchange and I suspect that is what they were using also...
If you read the article, one of the uses is for doing the same install on multiple systems. We have 20 systems in the lab that are exactly the same hardware. We use ghost to to install nt on the fly, and kickstart to install linux on the fly. Once you make the boot disk any joe-blow can maintain the lab by just putting the right floppy in and hitting the reset button. Very usefull in a high turn-over slash and hack lab.
As many others have said, It was who had the most impact, not who was the nicest.. Seriously, Hitler can be considered the catalyst for WWII, and WWII wrought significant social change here in the states (women in the workplace etc), we came into our own as a world military and economic power. Plus, if Hitler had never been born the History Channel would be out of business.:-)
get over your self. humor is a salve to help up absorb the horror of this and not go crazy.

I am so glad I am not the only one. It strikes me as juvenile at best. I immediately discount what the poster is saying by 1/2 when they do that.
Good Lord, I thought he was kidding, but this is *literaly* a complete cut-n-paste post.... how fucking sad is that?
Like the illuminati, or the masons, or the stonecutters. . .
The illuminati was the name of his BBS... so, yes you are correct. Plus in online computer age he has been around as long as those you refer to..
The first time we see the CSI team in the pilot we are introduced to them by a plain clothes policeman saying :
"Here comes the nerd squad."
I was hooked there, and it just got better.
It is a nerd show. If you read the review you see several instances stated as to why it is not a typical cop show.
BTW, folks who feel like they just *hate* Katz, why don't you block his articles and quit bitching like the bunch of 12 year old whiners you are.
whoops, how about this.. - http://pub2.ezboard.com/fsobserverssobserversmainf orum.showMessage?topicID=1491.topic

I found this on a google search. I had no idea either, but now I love it.

idiot
Really good for the power breakers :-)

You forgot to add "nano"-something. Plus some sort of tacyon device should be involved.

what about .gov .edu .mil ...
SO!! My cable modem does not.. that is the point. Or were you just trying to get an early post?

It is also very similar to the chef/ambasador on Star Trek Voyager ;-)
