That's exactly what killed Hellgate London, they never got over the stench of their launch. By the time the game got axed they'd fixed most of the problems and had a fun little game, but not enough people were willing to give them a second try, or even a first try after reading the reviews.
You'd think developers and publishers would be able to predict that kind of result, but obviously not.
Is that the cruise guy with the foghorn sound? Not lately, but I got a bunch of them this winter. (I suppose that's a good time to try to sell cruises in Canuckistan)
The "cardholder services" guys are my current scourge, at least 3 or 4 calls a week.
Canadian construction standards have also come a long way, but almost everyone has done the simple, high-payoff retrofits like insulation strips in doorways, caulking, etc. etc.
I suppose it's only human nature, when you're walking around barefoot making breakfast and a subzero draft rolls over your toes, it's RATHER NOTICEABLE. Aircon leaks, not so much.
I think there are a lot more gas ranges/water heaters in Europe
I think front load washing machines are much more common in Europe
Let's not forget the stereotypical smelly Frenchman, it is perfectly possible to have first-world societies where everyone doesn't shower each and every day.
Just a comment but from what I see on the TV renovation shows, every window in California is single-pane and insulation is a liberal myth. In Canada you'd freeze to death, in Cali apparently you just crank the AC a little higher and wonder why the power bill is so high.
Install LTSP on your home server, and use the laptop as a LTSP thin client. You'll reduce boot time because there's hardly anything running on the client machine, and probably get better performance once everything is running (assuming the server is faster then your old laptop).
The only thing I've ever seen to work is having good people acting on good faith with each other. Any attempt to impose policies or metrics or rules seems doomed to being gamed.
Too bad it's so rare to work with good people acting on good faith...
Aren't you glad you married an understanding woman you can talk to?
Where the hell do you find one of those?
Prepare for mass storage connected to the north bridge.
/me wanks furiously!
Someone says that everytime this discussion comes up.
I've found the best way to get a raise is to switch companies.
BTW, has anyone else noticed how the obesity issue in the US has tracked so closely with the introduction of that HFCS poison
So how do you explain all the fatties in the UK, Canada, Australia...
"je ne sais quoi"
MMO users exploiting a perceived weakness in the game? Who saw that one coming?

You're new here, right?
They apparently haven't fined a single violater since the .ca DNC started, I'm not holding my breath for them to pwn a company based in the States.
I used to hate people like you.
I'm pretty sure that's the idea, yes.

Does it cool down much overnight?
bigger houses in USA = more air to heat/cool

Meridian 59 was around in '96, can't think of anything earlier.
$300 million is peanuts to MS, it's more like chucking a stale cupcake at Marie Antoinette.
D'oh, I screwed up the submission. Blame me.

"bang" is ancient history.

Would you check that? I don't think I would...
It's not mutually exclusive. The people who buy Geneforge are hardcore RPG nerds, like me, who have already played a bunch of NWN modules, like me.
How exactly is the author to know details of actual piracy rates and how it has actually affected his business?
Spiderweb games have a plot. People buy them for the plot, not the graphics.
The people who buy the latest Geneforge game have already played NWN and Oblivion.
There is some truth to that, but I've found a pretty tight correlation between "size" and "pain-in-the-ass-to-work-for".
Besides, after the dot-bomb and current financial meltdown, appeals to the wisdom of the stock market won't convince me.
The whole area is far from a solved problem
Understatement of the day :)
