    Skin effect is only that when the media has a uniform impedance. The human body is anything but uniform when it comes to electrical propagation. AC is considered a greater shock hazard to humans because of it's ability to overcome the bodies natural resistance with a lower magnitude (voltage) than DC.

    I believe the issue here is that the TLB invalidation needs to happen on all processors in an SMP environment when changing RW status on a page when using CoW and Zero-Copy. It's stated in the forums that this overheard is far worse than simples copies.

    you right, i was wrong to imply 100% immunity. so It'll have to take a few hits before they are knocked out. It's also important to note that the statement you quoted is mostly opinion. As modern EMP resistance testing involves the use of EMP 'simulators', it is pretty close to impossible to tell what would really happen during an actual nuclear blast.

    According to this article, the metal frame of an automobile acts as a faraday cage and is therefore immune to EMP blasts.

    WTF ever, if I saw a box the read 'Indestructable', I would try my hardest to destroy it.

    WTF are you talking about..? Those 'Internet' keyboards are very useful.

    I have all the special keys remapped to pop up either Eterms, jcc, Konqueror, or do various other functions for development use.. even those windows function keys are useful when remapped.

    As you may have gathered from above I am a software engineer as opposed a sysadmin. even then, i'd have em remapped to traceroute, ping, netstat --inet, etc...

    Maybe it's just becuase I have a button fettish... who knows... :) My dev box at work, though, is sweet... WindowMaker, transparent Eterms, and gcc are all you need..

    I'm sorry, I couldn't resist... but the, Damn Lameness Filter made me second anyway...

    But since i'm here. (On-Topip stuff starts here)

    I think it is rather difficult finding someone with adequite Math skills and who would want to do things other than 'Pure CS'. I know too many people who have a very good education, But want to do nothing but mess with their systems. All day and night, tweaking... building...

    I call them 'cave-dwelling' nerds as I find this 'No-Life' attitude very sad. One example would be one of my somewhat closer friends, had straight A's though high school. In my opinion, Physicist material. Could work for NASA. But all he wants to do is make web sites... But I guess that just leaves better jobs for me...

    What do you guys think?...
