  1. And if a phone is more than a few years old, Apple will call it obsolete and won't repair it even at full price.

Is there any manufacturer that won't call a "more than a few years old" phone obsolete?

  2. PA Semiconductor already had plans for a 64 core Power CPU back in 2006. Guess who bought PA Semiconductor a few years ago? The same people designing the A-series chips.

    https://www.theregister.co.uk/...

If you think the A11 is powerful, think how much more power 64 cored A11 would be? Oh, parallelism and concurrency? That's what Grand Central Dispatch is for.

What would be interesting would be a MacBook running a small 2 core Intel chip as a co-processor, and the main OSX things all running on ARM...

  3. Zen/ESX provides complete[1] isolation (well, no user side stuff :)) between the VMs.

[1] Yes yes, I know. Not complete. But "more complete" than VMware Fusion or Workstation.

My ideal configuration would be an OpenBSD Dom0. and then 3 virtual machines, running Windows, OS X and Linux.

  4. I've always thought it would be pretty neat to have ESX running on a laptop and swapping between the different OSes as needed.

That's because it's a recent change. In the past, FB app asks for all the rights it can get, and on Androids, it's a yes or no to running the app. If you said yes, you just gave it all the permissions it asked for.

All these 3rd party keyboards... I wonder which one will die off next.

  7. Your analogy is flawed. You bloody well know if you want to run a MS app, you run it on windows.

Some development might be cross platform, but only because they made the effort.

Stop trying to say it's all the same. The base OS is not all the same. Learning how to use the APIs is not all the same.

And I say this as someone who hates and loathes windows and used to run linux/wine on my laptops since before 2000, and now use OSX as my main desktop platform.

  8. There's never a 1 for 1 replacement. And if you want to develop stuff in Visual Studio doing dotNet and things like that, you're barking up the wrong tree.

But IDEs? Linux has plenty of them, and some are even pretty mature.

Now that High Sierra is available, you should upgrade to High Sierra instead of El Capitan. For security and compatibility reasons, Apple always recommends using the latest version of macOS.

If your Mac doesn't support High Sierra, or you're using Snow Leopard or Lion and would like to upgrade to High Sierra, follow these steps:

    1. Use this link to open the El Capitan page on the App Store: Get OS X El Capitan.

And that "Get OS X El Capitan" points you directly to: https://itunes.apple.com/app/o...

  24. Looking at the Alabama special election is really interesting right now. In the primaries, Judge Roy Moore was a populist and avid Trump fan who went against the establishment favorite Luthor Strange. Strange outspent Moore by a wide margin... and lost. Now we see the senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, would rather see a democrat win than have Moore elected(*).

You would rather elect a self-confessed child molester than a Democrat? What the fuck is wrong with you? He did confess to it - he said he never dated any young girls without their mother's permission. On the Sean Hannity show!

(*) It boils down to whether an *accusation* of impropriety is enough to knock a candidate out of an election. You can easily see how this might be abused, and indeed in Moore's case it certainly seems like the accusations are specious.

NINE women have come forth now. Most of them are Republican voters and voted for Trump. And you claim they are specious. So much evidence have been brought forth and you just blindly ignore it all. I'm not surprised you are a Republic voter and just ignores evidence.
