Guns are most often used for non-hunting sport. Clay shooting, benchrest rifle, pistol drills, turkey shoot (the turkey is a target, I mean the target is a target, I mean a piece of paper.. blah, I mean no animals die in the process:), the list is endless.

I hope the anti-gun people can see that restricting guns is the equivalent to the gun people trying to restrict the ownership and use of inflated pigskins, or golf clubs (or as they are known on the street, cop clubbers). It's just a piece of sporting equipment in many cases.

Basically it is a measure of the rate of change of acceleration.

Anyway, the jerk is what would be doing the destroying, so something that has a high velocity would probably be easier to destroy in theory, especially if it is moving away from you at the high velocity.
I think the idea is that you don't want to suddenly accelerate things toward you, that would sort of suck, but if they are already moving away from you, you can bring them to a rest destructively without shelling your gravity ray gun with pieces of the target.
As someone else said, this thing would be pretty likely to destroy itself anyway, but I think if it had enough mass in relation to the target, it could happen.
And all this is assuming you could even build this gravity ray, which is likely junk science at this point in time.

An anecdote, at work we had a sales@ email address that we never checked, it was linked on the web page, but the nature of our business means that we don't really get new sales through the web page. Anyway, it went unchecked for a year or so. Upon opening it, it had all spam, one person seeking employment, and no legitimate messages. Several hundred messages total.
You know, that sounds kinda silly, but at one point I was seriously considering shingling a outdoor UPS Battery storage shed that I am planning to build with AOL CDs. I figure it will be great for reducing heat build up due to the sun.
I better keep it in the back yard though, I can see explaining to the people that crashed into my house blinded by the sun about the AOL cds.

Usually encroachments are like someone building part of their driveway on your land, or fencing off part of your land, or having part of a building on your land.... Just having him maintain the strip of lawn probably isn't enough. Consult a lawyer in your state if you are concerned though, I can't give legal advice.
Most states have laws that if you are allowed to encroach on someone's land as if it were your own for X amount of years, it becomes yours.
For example, I was recently buying a house that wasy too close to the back of the lot, but there was a fenced off 50 foot back yard even though the lot only went 15 feet off the back of the house. Since the landowner being encroached upon hasn't demanded they remove the fence, in several years, that land might become part of the other lot, and the original landowner will have no recourse.
I'm sure these laws will get their test with this new development.

But, if a large amount of the mirrors defected, quit accepting updates, etc, then they could gain control. Of course this would create a situation where you would randomly get two different results for the same lookup. If enough defected though, it may not matter.

You don't want to deep cycle a car battery.
You don't want to deep cycle any battery that is not designed to be deep cycled.
A standard size deep cycle battery is about 75 amp hours. Assume the laptop burns 50 watts or so. (I don't have numbers, this seems reasonable)
50 watts = 12 volts at 4 amps or so.
75 amp hours is usually a 5 hour rating IIRC, meaning if you use the power faster than that, you will get less, slower, you will get more.
18.75 hours+ at 50 watts, on a normal battery about the same size as a car battery, but designed for deep cycling.
