There are very few karma whores anymore. I see a couple obvious ones, people who post several root level comments are a dead givaway, but I'd say lots of people are capped out at 50 now, at least anyone who posts fairly often.
I meant to imply in my smartass answer that, no, it sounds like total bullshit that they would integrate animal nerves into a robot. Unless you are big into secret conspiracy theories, I would not go spreading such a rumor around.
There is no need for any of that, 2.4.XX will eventually become stable, (it already is getting there fast), and 2.5 will be the unstable branch, with more extensive patches done to it.
As long as people use the latest 2.4, it will be the most stable. (Unless Marcelo screws up.)
If you mean organic as "of, relating to, or containing carbon compounds", then I'm sure they did use organic materials. Plastics are organic, gasoline is organic, etc.
If you are going to use the automobile argument, avoid falling into the common trap. Software just about all comes with disclaimers in all capital letters saying not to use it in any system where failure could cause injury or death. Anyone stupid enough to run windows in a nuclear control or life support deserves to get sued anyway, but my point is, the things you point to in real life products are flaws that affect the physical well being of the user, i.e. injury or death. No one is going to get hurt if you lose all your data, not in a physical way.
Unless you were the person responsible for security and the PHB goes for blood.:)

Seriously, What are the privacy implcations? Is this yet another opportunity for the government? What about weaving this technology into all clothing without the person knowing about it? Will we have to do RF emissions checks when we go to buy a hat?
What about when it gets to the point where a computer could be tattooed into your skin?
I know this is all a long way off, but does anyone remember that episode of The Outer Limits where they all had the direct link into the Internet that they "wore" at all times? (I think it was supposed to be some sort of implant, but technology like this could bring us one step closer.)
Many of the windows 9X TCP/IP utilities were indeed derived from BSD. Just do a strings on any of them. The BSD copyright notice is right there in clear text.
something, and I am not tied down to the rpm management system, but I can choose to use the tgz's if I want.
What are you talking about? Just because Red Hat can use RPMs doesn't mean you have to. Red Hat comes with precompiled kernels, and RPM kernel updates, but you don't HAVE to use those either. Sticking with RPMs and stock kernels offers the benefits of QA testing and easy management, but you don't have to use it if you don't want. Heck, I bet you can even rpm -e rpm if you really wanted to.
. (The break-even is arounf 5-6k$. Below ~3TB, drives win and vice versa.)
My argument was just that the break even point is climbing, and it could be climbing really quickly. Maxtor is already ready to jump from 100GB IDE to 160GB IDE. I'll also avoid IDE-SCSI arguments, since this isn't really about that. The same roughly holds true of SCSI drives, just at 3X the price.
IRIX is one example. I thought, well I'll just type killall to see it's quick help (assuming the GNU style of telling me a quickhelp with invalid command line options).
That really kills EVERYTHING, no prompt, no quckhelp, (if you were root). It's the fastest way to take down a small supercomputer that I know of.:)
The brave new list of Do's and Don'ts regarding writing your congressperson:
1. Don't write. They don't open their mail for fear of Anthrax.
2. Don't call. LSD/A>, lightning, viruses, and many other things make congress fearful of phones, and not likely to answer them.
3. Don't fax. After all, a fax is really just a glorified phone call. (see #2)
4. Don't email. They all heard about that Good Times virus, and are really afraid of getting it.
5. Don't drive there in person. Especially if you drive a white van, and try to park in front of the building.
In conclusion, the best way to contact your congressperson now seems to be standing on the tallest building near them and yelling. Just don't get too close to them.
suddenly I can't remember seeing those ratings for TV shows in a while).
Yeah I had the same realization a while back. Those ratings are still there, it just got to the point where no on notices them, same as the little closed caption symbol at the beginning of most programs. I watched specifically for them after I realised that I didn't remember seeing them in a while. They made them more prominent when they first came out, full screen then shrinking into the corner, or large in the corner for a few seconds, now they are smallish.
Until your DSL ISP which is owned by AOL/Disney/MS decides to only serve.clean content, then you are fucked. Guess it isn't censorship since you can always get dial-up Juno, right?:)
You contrast Winmodems with Winmodems?
Nearly all PCI modems ARE winmodems.
Out of your list, only the external serial modem is likely to be a full modem.
No one has heard of

Dude, no more drinking in the morning.
I believe Alan is still a UK citizen, he just works for a North Carolina company, but don't quote me on that.

And the fucker would prevent me from smoking, lest he let me come to harm through inaction?
I think such a robot would quickly get a readjustment of the sledgehammer kind.

We all saw how well THAT worked!
Console game are free too if you steal them.

I hope they don't have this particular feature still in place.
Nobody's forcing you to use it.

Yes, but would you be happy buying a license to operate a TV?
That is how the BBC is supported IIRC.

Now they all work for Red Hat, RHAT hired all of the good VA Linux Open Source programmers a couple weeks ago.

Costly disks? Last I checked, hard disks were getting about the same price per meg as tape. Tape is finally dying, give it 5 years.
