Why? Because our technology sector has a fairly large interest in seeing Taiwan remain free from the mainland. Hit this and scroll all the way to the bottom. The j-12 isn't ready yet, but it will be in a few years. That might come sooner now that the Chinese are ramping up their internal semiconductor market. Don't get me wrong, I really don't want to fight the Chinese as that always seems to go badly for the other side, but if it comes down to it we need to make sure our toys are just as tough and mean as theirs.
Well, if you're talking about sites that provide govenment services then yes, accessability standards should be maintained. Just like if you go to a courthouse, there needs to be a ramp there for wheelchairs. If your talking about rubmyhotbutt.com, though, then I agree with you; this should not be compulsory.
Where are these decent drivers you speak of? So far as I know there are none. Granted, this is a problem with Broadcom and not Linksys, but it's fishy to me that their WAP runs linux but that linux cannot be used to run their cards.
Does this mean that we'll finally be able to turn off GDI and get a system that is still meaningful? I think that would take more than a new shell to happen, though.
That's one of the things I really like about linux: servers don't have to run X.
Bah. I ran Warp quite nicely wif 8mB on my 486dx-33 for about a year and a half(94ish-95ish). It was the only setup I could come up with that would:
Run my OBV/2 BBS Let me play DooM Not be Desqview
all at the same time. Win 3.x could do none of these particularly well, even without considering multitasking. Also, I don't think it was Win/OS2 that killed native development, I think it was exclusive agreements between large software makers(adobe springs to mind) and MS that killed native development, in addition to OEM agreements that mandated that new PCs be shipped with Win95. Thanks be that I only had to sit in front of 95 for a few months before I pulled my head out of my ass and learned linux(and don't think the DooM port didn't have anything to do with that. Thanks iD!)

Ram is a problem too, I found. At one point I was trying to get the NFS-swap patch into their kernel, but I met with limited success. Does anyone know if there's a way to mount the flash in the save-game packs as swap?
yup, you're right. Problem is, it's always been like this; even from the beginning. Bashing Microsoft is one of the cornerstone philosophies of Slashdot and that's not likely to change. If you want news with a "fair" bias, you might want to check here instead.
You're absolutely right, actually. In fact, this has already started and will only be getting worse in the future. Too many parents with children being sent up North from Long Island, not enough infrastructure to support their spoiled asses. I would've preferred to have see 125mil go to this new fab thingy, and 25mil go to public transportation in the area.. Oh, wait.. none of you bastards would use it anyway.
I am now committed to supporting an OpenGL 2.0 renderer for Doom through all
the spec evolutions. If anything, I have been somewhat remiss in not pushing the issues as hard as I could with all the vendors. Now really is the critical time to start nailing things down, and the decisions may stay with us for ten years.
Uhmm.. I don't know about you, but my cable service is hardly "unlimited." I cannot download more than 250-275 KBPS, and I can upload no more than 35-40 KBPS. If it were the case that I could transfer as fast as I liked(or, hey, even as fast as the equipment deployed was capable of) then I wouldn't mind a per-MB charge of some kind; until that happens your reasoning is flawed. Bandwidth isn't even like buying a utility like water or electricity; it's like leasing a car. You pay a certain amount to be able to go a certain speed, with the expectation that you may do this as frequently and as long as you like.
Yes, Clear Channel began buying up most of the more popular radio stations in Albany, NY(where I'm from) a couple years back. Clear Channel helps my community by restricting the quality and diversity of program material that is broadcast. I've heard, however, that even they are not without their deal of financial woes; I suspect that we will hear their name mentioned in similar context as some other companies that have been in the news lately in the near future.
In theory, yes. If the government prosecuted EVERYONE on EVERY broken law, the courts would be forced to examine them all on a case-by-case basis. So, if you trust the judicial branch to overthrow laws that are lapses of logic, you might be persuaded to allow this sort of thing.

Who the fuck modded this up? This guy actually believes in intellectual property!

Uh.. As far as I recall both operating systems cost 99.95 for upgrade media. Overpriced?

Then of course you don't have to boot into an operating system in order to run it. Emulation opens the door a little wider.

So, who else thinks they should take their share of the first part of the reward money and send an X-box to the same guys in Haifa that did DSS?

If you paid as much as they did for some mere knowledge you'd probably be insecure too.
I wondered about this too. Huge fab being built for SUNY, a school w/ ZERO EE. Makes you wonder if an H1B will be requisite to get a job there.

yeah.. if they don't plan on changing it any, then why did they just drop 75 large on it? I don't think they're that altruistic..
