  1. Military/State Department Problems on Auto-Suicide for Grey Market Electronics? · · Score: 2

Just the problems this would cause the government. At least in the cases where they move their employees around. Not to mention the private sector.

  2. What if more e-mail providers fold? on AltaVista Gives Up On E-mail [Updated] · · Score: 1

I know that I depend on a free e-mail account so that if my ISP changes I don't have to worry about switching my e-mail. I really can't afford to be stranded from my web-based e-mail.
This is a bad sign for those depending on this.

  3. Wire Tapping vs. Key Stroke Monitoring on FBI Bugs Keyboard of PGP-Using Alleged Mafioso · · Score: 2

I consider often the stuff on my computer more precious than what I would say in a phone call. The work on my computer is much better thought out than a phone call and therefore could be much more incriminating.
I think that key-stoke monitoring needs to be at least as protected as wire-tapping by laws.

  4. why? on Virginia Beach Pays Microsoft $129,000 · · Score: 1

Yeah, come on do you really think that government employees can use Linux? That's just asking of anarchy.

I wonder what an audit of my Virginia county's too rich government center would bring. Come on MS bring it on!!!

  5. .com vs other TLDs on When Worlds Collide: The New Dot-Biz And The Old · · Score: 2

I often hear the radio ads for .tv domains. Which cost more to register. The ads state that since your company is new and fresh to the internet it is better.

Frankly I think it says you are late to the boat and are lucky to jump on.

Now with .biz it is even worse. Not only are you late, but you are late and spending a lot more money to make up for it.

Business-wise this is not something I respect.

  6. Electoral College is too old on Election Wrapping Up (Part 2) · · Score: 2
Why do we have the electoral college system?

I think it is outdated for todays needs. After all everyone has access to everything needed to vote. You can be a well educated voter.

Of course the guy in front of me at the polls today had to let me go first. Why? Because he hadn't decided, because he hadn't managed to figure this out before a minute before he went to vote.

I felt like my vote was pretty pointless today. I voted Democrat and a completely Republician state, Virginia.

Anyway I think that we should have a popularly elected president and stop with the old fashioned methods. If we can popularly elect Senators then we can do it with presidents.

  7. Re:Oh no - more lemmings jokes... on Do Penguins Topple When Planes Fly Over? · · Score: 1

So you mean they are knocking the penguins over? Like they chased the lemmings off of cliffs to make them jump off of them? Great more created animal behaviors. Just what we need. Oh my dog is begging I guess I have to give her a cookie.

  8. This one should last about 75 years? on Green Bank Telescope Goes Live · · Score: 1

So if the first one lasted 16 more years then it was supposed to this one should last over 75 years. I think more places should underestimate the lastingness of their products.

  10. MS Cult on The Myth Of The Borg · · Score: 1
Plain and simple, you could never get everyone to prescribe to a company cult. Many people will continue to work for MS for the same reason that many people hold any job. FOR MONEY!!!

Not to take over the world, smash Netscape, be the only software company, etc.

  11. Not a good fix on Intel Reacts to AMD · · Score: 1

With the waiting that has been done for the Williamette I think that this quick fix will not be the answer. If AMD continues to release faster processors ahead of Intel the true winner in the chip race will become apparent.

  12. 4 pots didn't kill me on Caffeine Vault · · Score: 1
You mean when I drank four pots of coffee and was insanely sick the next day I was near death? I guess if I had drank one more pot that would have been it for me. Or if I had a bigger coffee pot...

I have to wonder about the statistics too, because though I was ill the next day, I don't think I was near death. Maybe the coffee high made my forget my own mortality. Speaking of which I need another cup...

  15. Live Concerts Will Lose Their Point on Intercontinental Real-Time Surround-Sound Full-Scr... · · Score: 1

For recording I agree that this could be a great thing. Many different artists could get together without having to sync their schedules to be in the same place to record. However, I always thought half of the point of a live concert was to be there. To see the sweat on the singers brow, to be with the other screaming fans. When that person is half way around the world it isn't the same. I suppose there will be a solution for that someday too. VR concerts, where you don't even know your not there. Until then I'd much prefer to see everyone together at the same place.

  16. Always will be another way on Privacy, Part Two: Unwanted Gaze · · Score: 1

No matter what software comes out to preserve our privacy it a way around it will come out. It is difficult to create a fix that nobody will be able to over ride. In this age of technology most don't want to give up their privacy, but it is more and more difficult to keep it.

Sorry, Mister. Let's Be Exact. I know about Pizza Hut's driving policy. Guess what before becoming a geek, yeah that's right I was a manager there.

I don't believe you can't have any points, you can't have reckless driving tickets and there are rules about that sort of thing. However, they aren't as strict as you gave them.

However, can't take a joke, huh?

  18. Corporations and The Space Program on Pizza Hut's Space Program: First Launch · · Score: 2
Perhaps if big corporations though to put as much money into the space program as they do into computers then we would probably live on Mars. Or at least be close. Why is it that space isn't thought of as a sound investment. Probably because the investment is much longer term.

Can you imagine if MicroSoft had participated in space technology? Yes, you would only be able to use on kind of software to pilot your space ship, but maybe you would be able to take it to mars.

Of course the way Windows is it probably would crash a couple times along the way.

  21. As long as people talk about independent news on CNET Buys Ziff-Davis · · Score: 1

As long as people talk about independent news sources and continue to read they shouldn't be over taken. However, if false stories are frequently posted and the bigger sites get to them first then it will be difficult for independent places to keep their readership. Their other option is to view the news in a different way, such as for a different age or social group.

  25. Extended Copy Rights on On the Time Preference for Information... · · Score: 3
125 Years after the death of the inventor? I won't be able to take it all with me? I mean my 'estate' will still collect royalties for that long?

It doesn't make sense after all isn't the original intent to protect the creator? I think now we are just trying to protect the rights of those companies that often for example give musicians crappy music contracts. Why?

I hope to god people aren't listening to today's music in 125 years so much that it needs a copyright.
