Have you seen the O'Reilly Cookbooks? There is one for Java and one for Perl. While I've found the Perl Cookbook (Ram) immensely more useful, the Java Cookbook (Chicken) isn't bad. The problem I have with the Java Cookbook is that it will try to explain a subject before doing anything with it. It has been a while since I opened the book, but IIRC the stuff it has on regular expressions spent too much time telling me what a regular expression was and what the special characters were than showing me what Java can do with regular expressions.
While I don't doubt that the US Government came to the aid of its corporations, I do disagree with the author of the above posted article labeling George W. Bush a right wing extremist. He is definitely a conservative and right wing but extremist? Of course the author is entitled to his/her opinion, but how can they be considered a credible journalist if they make non-objective remarks such as this? Then again, maybe I'm blind.
Saving Private Ryan (SPR) is a TV special compared to Black Hawk Down (BHD)? You've got to be kidding!! Ignoring two facts that SPR is about a fictional misson in a factual background and SPR actually was a TV special this past veterans day, from a standpoint of which makes you feel the war, SPR wins hands down. Getting stabbed in the heart while a person that can help is a mere 10 feet away cowering on the steps...a medic, while administering aid, being shot through his canteen and into his side; first the water from the canteen is clear but then turns red, but he still keeps working....a guy standing on the beach, searching and eventually finding the lower half of one of his arms, picks up his arm in hopes that it could be saved. For BHD, there is only one scene that brings the same feelings and that is of the body of a soldier being carried around by an angry mob.
For those who bitch about America trying to police the world, I say we, America, should be isolationists like we were before WWI. Completely stay out of world affairs. Completely withdraw our money from IMF and other political banks. Quit trying to broker peace. While we don't singularly hold the world together, we are a major player in the game and do contribute a lot to the stability. While you can live without us if we did withdraw to isolationism, how long do you think it would take before smaller countries would self-destruct with civil war and genocide? Before a larger country would try to take over a group of smaller countries (remember the Gulf War)? Who would take our place? How long would it take before bitching begins that we shouldn't isolate ourselves? I think it is high time that all of the world grow up and realize that we should live and let live. Then nobody will have to have to be bombed to achieve a peaceful compromise. It takes along time to change, we should start sooner than later so peace comes quicker. Until then we'll all stay in the position of you can't live with us, you can't live without us.

Obviously you have a low tolerance for things that lie outside of your interests. My suggestion to you, since you went through the trouble to obtain a slashdot login, is to take hold of the mouse and click on the "preferences" link in the upper left of any slashdot served page. Next, navigate to the page that has all the little check boxes. Then configure them to only show the things you can tolerate. Finally, quit bitching about having a choice!
"Please don't come to our site. No really...don't. We don't have enough bandwidth to handle the traffic."
or maybe...
"Please stop giving us our content."
How can you "run a smaller site" when at any time of the day, millions of trained monkeys can attack at any moment? This makes me wonder how much bandwidth is consumed by robots refreshing the page to get first posts. Now relate this to running a smaller site...even if you deny them access you still have to waste the bandwidth for the denial.

I think this is a good concept, but some people are so much a free web zealot that they will mod the adds down just to mod to adds down.
Besides, I can just hear the advertiser now......"You want me to pay you what to have the potential for my adds to not be seen?!?"..
I purchased one of these in May. PIII 900, 256MB RAM, 15" XGA, 32MB DDR GF2Go, 20GB HD. Built in Firewire, modem, ethernet, 2 Card slots, SVGA port. It weighed in at ~8lbs and just over US$2700. The only thing I wish the laptops were up to speed on is HD transfer rate. If you are used to ATA100, you can definately tell the difference when you have to drop to ATA33. Quake 3 runs great and looks just as good as my desktop even when I turn up the settings to 1024X768, 32bit color. Diablo II does chug a bit when the top of the Palace in Act II or multiple streams of water in Act III come on the screen.
I'm tired of all you people being tired of anything that slashdot posts that you don't like!!!!
Here's a clue, get a login, go to preferences and customize. That is what it is frikkin' for!!!!
Or, don't read the frikkin' story!!! Personally, I could give a crap about Rambus so I skip the story!!! Some of you people are just as ignorant of the people you complain about.
On the days (weekday or weekend) we have to monitor the production system, we get $8 per 8 hour shift and your are on-call for a 24 hour period. On weekdays, we get paid for 2 shifts but on weekend days we get paid for 3. The number of on-call days varies. For this month I will have been on call for 4 weekdays and 2 weekend days over the entire month which translates to 14 shifts at $8 which is an extra $112 for the month. Not bad compared to the previous job where we were on-call 24/7 and got no extra pay.
Amen, brother! I keep telling this to my girlfriend but she....oh, wait...you are talking about a television set. Nevermind.
...we can go backwards while they go forwards...in several years they can outsource to us and we can take the jobs back...

Here is another article that is similar.

If you have no money, you run a smaller site.
So....how does this work?

or maybe...
"Please stop giving us our content."

So...take out the "morally blank omnipotent" part, and Que becomes nothing more than equivalent of a chat room/message board/newsgroup Troll.
