Go to staples/compUSA/best buy or whatever office supply store is near you and look at the CD-R's. Look at the video games, and look at the audio CD's. They all say compact disc. Now do the same for the floppys/zip disks, superdisks. They all say disk. It's industry standard.
Agreed. While the k-whore itself may just be pandering to the tastes of the *average* moderator, the replies a typical k-whore generates can (and do) spark meaningful conversation, which is becoming quite a rarity on this site.
It's spelled minidisc. 'disc' for optical media, and 'disk' for magnetic media. But then again, a professional journalist such as yourself working for a technology site would know that, wouldn't you?
I appreciate your suggestion, kind sir, but I must respectfully decline. Not only am I trying to burn excess karma, but I would like to make the point that the Karma cap does nothing but promote trolling and crapflooding on this site.
Proof, beyond a shadow of a doubt that moderators don't read posts they moderate. Anything with numbers or big words gets an instant (+1, Informative). Sad. Truly sad.
I'm not saying it *won't* work. I'm just trying to let you know that you're going to have a couple of additional problems to deal with if you're planning on getting a clear case. I've got a translucent purple one myself.
People do sell 100% transparent cases. Tom's Hardware has an article here.
I wouldn't suggest buying one, though. The plastic shells tend to generate more static electricity than their metal counterparts and we all know that's bad for PC components. Also, the metal provides shielding from electromagnetic and radio interference.
The 660 is the replacement for the 600A. No secret menu though : ( It doesn't play all MPEG's and some will play, but with problems (no sound, no color, etc...) Still, not a bad bonus feature. Apex doesn't advertise this ability because it doesn't offer full support.
It certainly is a laser issue. The lasers used in DVD players have a much lower wavelength (I believe it's somewhere between 60-70 nm) than a standard CD player. I think most DVD players made today are using blue lasers. These lasers work fine for most audio CD's, but CD-R discs have a much lower reflectivity and cannot reflect the beam back to the pickup with enough efficiency to allow the player to read the disc. Some DVD manufacturer's (such as those in the parent) use a twin laser system that can switch between a standard red laser used for CD's and CD-R's and a narrow beam laser for DVD's.
Oh and the Apex DVD players are great. The AD660 can read an MPEG 1 or MPEG2 burned straight to a CD-R. No need to format the file as a VCD.
That's understandable. I guess if you *really* like pinball... I never was much of a fan, but as long as you're happy, I have no complaints. How long did the process take from start to finish?
In most cases, whenever a large sum of stock is given away by a company, whether it be IPO offerings or a purchase of another company, the receiver of the stock must sign an agreement stating that he won't sell the stock before a certain amount of time has passed. This is intended to prevent massive sell-offs of stock by numerous employees and to help keep the value of the stock up. In all reality, Taco was probably never rich, he just had a piece of paper from VA telling him he was.
Eric, I understand the motivation to hack CSS/Tivo/iopener/whatever.., but what exactly motivated you to want to hack a pinball machine. Most of us want to hack devices that are copy protected or have their functionality limited by the corporation who built the device, but what advantage could you possibly gain by hacking a pinball machine? This may sound ignorant, but what were your motivations for this project?
Taco doesn't have millions of dollars. He was paid about 6 million in VA stock for the Slashdot buyout. That was over a year ago when VA was selling for over $100/share. Now that it's around $8/share he only has a fraction of what he once had. If anyone should be pissed at VA, it's Taco.
It's a reduction in the *rate* of growth.
A chipset that integrates video, modem, networking, and sound into the motherboard. Generally aimed towards the lower end of the price spectrum.

Definitive answer!

I have too much Karma and no incentive to post Insightful comments. Moderators, you know what to do!

Yeah, I know, IHBT, but the Sony PCG-F630 runs on an AMD K6-2 550. Idiot.

But seriously, searching for porn is listed as one of the worst. I've been doing it for free for years. I had no idea I could be getting paid for it.
This is the eighth time Slashdot has reported that MIR will be decomissioned. Enough Already!
The same way people who have parachuted from crashing planes do: Activate the homing beacon you brought with you.
Shouldn't all moderators be browsing at "oldest first" so they will know what comments to mark as (-1, Redundant)?

Then why does Sony make CD-RW drives?

No, it's not just him, or No, it doesn't look like Bart?
