  2. Re:Slashdot and Internet Polls don't mix :-) on Sierra Studios asking about Linux · · Score: 1

Although I agree with your point that internet polls aren't of any real statistical value, I have to say that if I see a Linux game related poll, I'm going to go push the button next to Linux. I beta tested Civ:ctp for Linux and prepurchased the game. If there were more Linux games, and better vendor supported GL drivers for Linux I could blow away the Windows partition on my game box. However, since there isn't widespread support for Linux as a gaming platform, and because I can't possibly know what a vendors reason for putting Linux games on a poll is, I will continue to push that Linux button. If only to maintain the hope that more commercial game developers will port games to Linux.

Does this mean that Window$ will be moving to ipv6 pretty soon. I would really love to get off of ipv4, and the only thing holding us back a move like that is the fact that Micro$oft Windows doesn't support it. I mean 64 bit ip addresses. We'll be back to a time when we don't have to worry about being able to get enough real address space. Oh well, one can only hope.

Makeing you not lazy, but inefficient. I'm not really sure wich is the greater of the two evils. -- just my two cents --

  9. VAR 4100d on NT faster than Linux in tests · · Score: 1

Well, we have a VAR 4100d (4100c? i can never remember). Anyway... 2GB ram and 1.2TB disk space... The performance so far has been amazing, and I'm afraid to see what would happen if it had NT on it (BSOD probably). It handles all of the windows boxes in the office getting mp3's off of the samba share and the linux boxes off the an nfs export... Among it's other tasks of course. It is simply remarkable how stable and responsive the server is. But that's just my experience.

Although I doubt that Microsoft will be porting office to Linux anytime soon, I know that even if they do, I will never run it. Part of the reason that I left the M$ Windowz platform was because it sucked, the last thing I need to see is M$ products on my Linux box.
