The tools and processes of discovering and disclosing exploits shouldn't be illegal. The use of them should, and is. Why should we add regulation on top of that to prevent this type of "speech?" You should be punished for doing something wrong, not for creating something that someone else might use with ill intent?
Where are the test binaries thru the 2.5 series then?
Maybe they are in testing internall at NVidia. Maybe they don't want to distribute binaries that aren't any good. Maybe NVidia doesn't want to be involved in releases for unstable kernels. There is nothing that says they have to so to expect them to is stupid.
Am I to believe that the day 2.6.0 appears they'll launch a fully-tested and solid driver?
No, you should expect a 2.6 driver the day NVidia says they will have one and not expect one until then. That's the problem with closed source binary drivers.
Then again, if I had wanted a fully-supported graphics driver, I wouldn't have bought an nForce board, right?
Last time I checked it was fully supported. Just with stable kernels. If you choose to run unstable or development systems then you shouldn't expect everything to work or be supported. That's what happens in development or testing systems.
The Anandtech article specifically talks about the new video using the PCI Express 1x16 port and that the boards will also have a couple PCI Express 1x ports on them. So by reading the article you gain enough information to google search for "PCI Express 1x16 video"
Good god, is it really that hard to search for pci express at google.com?
From an Intel developer network page. Desktop Platforms with PCI Express Architecture will be designed to deliver highest performance in video, graphics, multimedia and other sophisticated applications. PCI Express architecture provides a high performance graphics infrastructure for Desktop Platforms doubling the capability of existing AGP8x designs with transfer rates of 4.0 Gigabytes per second over a x16 PCI Express lane for graphics controllers.
There is even a link to a PDF detailing why PCI Express will be the next choice for graphics.
This has less to do with processor speed and computing capabilities than it does with size and noise. There are a great many people buying smaller cases like the shuttle xpc because computers do everything they want and footprint, noise, and style are the things lacking now.
Gamers won't care much about BTX unless there is a killer video card that will only be released in PCI Express form factor. At least initially.
While I'm not a huge star trek fan by any stretch I have to admit the theme song for the new tv series was absolutely horrible. The show wasn't much better the couple of times I watched it, but I don't think the best theme song in the world would have changed that;)
Final Fantasy on the other hand is something I'm a pretty big fan of. The main concern I have with the most recent FF games is the feeling that they have added more cut scenes that cause the game to feel linear more like a movie than a game. Other than that changes couldn't hurt too much could they? I mean if this one is a flop you could always go back to the tried and true FF style.
Most people that are stuck using exchange are stuck using it because of shared folders, scheduling, and contacts. Not just the email portion of Exchange.
Price inflation would happen. But it would be a huge equalizer. If we assume that $25,000 is the current household average, then giving every household another $25K will double the amount of money in the economy, hence we will assume the doubling the price of all goods and services (not the 250x increase you propose).
You can't assume that this would be $25,000 in addition to the existing incoming because it is already assumed that these people are not working due to massive amounts of automation.
I have no idea. The parent poster mentioned 15" monitors so that's what I went with. 17" is becoming very standard for low end CRTs and 15" appears to be the entry level LCD.
Don't you mean 800x600? I can't believe how many people with 17" monitors still use 800x600 as thier resolution. Unless the computer shipped with 1024x768 default I wouldn't expect to see that as the default resolution, and I certainly wouldn't expect it with a 15" monitor.
When he put up the black list an error message was returned saying unable to deliver message smtp connection refused "Stop using relays.osirusoft.com." Or something along those lines. You couldn't not know your email wasn't sent unless your mail client was severely broken.

The only patch for this is hitting the stupid users upside the head with a clue by four for running the virus. SoBig.F is a virus, not the MS Blaster worm you are thinking of. I'm sure there are a number of unpatched versions of outlook that automatically ran the virus, but I would be willing to bet the majority were the same old stupid users that have been resonsible for running every other big virus we've seen.
DeBeers is already doing this. They are putting lots of detection equiptment into various sellers so that the diamonds "authenticity" can be proven. It's only a matter of time before all diamonds come with a DeBeers certificate of authenticity just like those Elvis collectors plates you see on those late night infomercials. Canadian diamonds are sold this way as well. If you want to avoid conflict diamonds you should make sure your Canadian diamond comes with a certificate. This way you know that some Candian diamonds and some conflict diamonds weren't mixed together in Belgium when they were getting cut and you end up with a conflict diamond instead.
Unless it says up front in the license that the software may contact the publishers server they have no right to do so. If I purchased software that did so or had the capability to do so and it was not in the EULA or some other documentation I would no longer do business with that publisher. At that point it is no better than any other type of spyware.
Agreed. This type of action is also commonly used in the argument against closed source/proprietary software. What do you do when the vendor increases the price? Or worse, stops developing one product in favor of another? Or changes formats and breaks compatability?
I don't even think they changed the layout that recently. It looked like this with the codec link at the bottom a few months ago when I went and got the codec.
Sad but true, and they only charged $10 per month. The graphics weren't anything special or anything and there were limitations with the engine, but they managed to pull off some fun stuff. I especially enjoyed some of the developer driven events where they actively participated by playing main characters in the storyline and we could actually go see them and fight them etc.
If they can get thier shit together and get Asherons Call style monthly updates rolling (better than this months which is absolutely worthless so far) I'll stick around for a long time. I played AC for 3 years and stuck around for the people I met and the monthly updates. Not every month was a great update, but there were always updates. For $10 bucks a month I felt I got my monies worth and played two accounts for much of that time. Unfortunatly the end for me was when the problems with the community that remained in the game over shadowed the updates Turbine was creating. Running around with hundreds of other people that were all maxed out in levels and having every quest solved within a couple of hours of the monthly patch sucked.
British Virgin Islands I believe.
No problem.

and NVidia will care shortly after 2.6 is released as stable. Complaining about support in a testing kernel doesn't mean much to them I'm sure.
True, but I think this will be a quick and easy upgrade for Joe Sixpack as well. That is of course if Joe Sixpack decides he needs a new computer.

Sony refers to thier latest console as the PS2 not the PS/2.

That would matter if they actually stopped giving away the free codec. Which they didn't.
