  1. Terrance Dicks! on Writers Who Will Stand the Test of Time? · · Score: 1

Why and who is Terrance Dicks? He is IMHO the main writer for Doctor Who. As I see Doctor Who surviving, if nothing more than cult status, his writings will survive. I'm not saying that he is a great writer, just stating that he'll be remembered and read.

At last count, which is not up-to-date I have at least 20 of his books (scripts). I do enjoy a quick and precise plot.

  2. Quadnery is better. on Ternary Computing · · Score: 1

    How about Quadnery? Yes!
The values would be "less than," g"reater than," "equal to," and "who cares?" :)

  3. Horrible. on Cyberspace a Separate Place? · · Score: 1

This is not going to stand. The powers of the federal government are to regulate interstate commerce. If this judge declares cyberspace to "some other place," how can any interstate law be upheld?

Second, if this other place exists, I declare all taxes to be non-existent as I am going have a bloody coup and become dictator of the realm.

  4. Discriminating against the poor! on NSync Copy Protected CD · · Score: 1

    Let me predict the future.
    A. 14 days from receiving a new CD, the scheme will be hacked ( if not sooner )

    B. Well to-do kids will download work-around solutions and make copies of their songs.

    C. The poor, will keep supporting greedy music industry.

If you are going to create a sales promotion, at least get your facts correct. Is there any truth to any of this? Bill J. Clinton, are you reading this?

Besides that, I'm so glad that he took this advice and applied his imagination to "wordly" things.

  6. So when will the world finally BAN MICROSOFT! on Microsoft "Bans" Use Of GPL Code · · Score: 1

So M$ has taken the first volley. When will some of us speak up and begin to ban M$ from our servers? When will we support only non-M$ browsers? I for one refuse any M$ specific extensions with my servers and I plan on shortly attempting to ban IE from browsing my sites. OF COURSE I'M NOT-FOR-PROFIT!!! And my sites are for specific companies and their employees. All have been setup to use Netscape.

  7. Hopefully, just a beginning on Dr. Who To Come Back To The BBC · · Score: 1

We can only hope that the BBC will begin to realize the assets that they are wasting away. How much time, effort, and financial resources does it take to build up such a great and long story line as Doctor Who? Not to mention the fan base. I first so Doctor Who in 1985. When I travel out of town, the first thing that I look for in my hotel room is a television guide, a PBS station, and is Doctor Who on the telly.

  15. Re:There are some issues, in the eyes of admins :( on Student-Run IT System Just Makes Sense · · Score: 1

I agree 100%. Who is responsible when the assets are missing? Who is responsible to the school, the alumni, and the parents of the childern attending the university when a core curriculum is canceled because "Johnny's computer is missing?" Having worked as a student operator/programmer during my 4+ years, students don't have a great grasp of operations, disaster recovery, nor programming procedures to succede. Assuming that someone does acquire the knowledge, the loss of knowledge because of the turn over rate ( every four years? ) would be horrific. From my days, I remember a few renegade staff members who were fired and if they hadn't been graduating in the spring, would have been booted out of the college. Who is to oversee disciplinary actions of students and what will be the consequences? I see this lasting about five or so years at best before it becomes an embarressment.

I wonder if people 100 years ago felt the same way towards the buggy whip industry when automotives were taking over the world. Try replacing the words "intellectual-property business" with "buggy whip." Does anyone care about the buggy whip industry? Are we here to serve an industry or is the industry here to server our needs? What a greedy, narrow minded, pimple on Bill Gates fat ass this guy is. Somebody pop him.

And why is it that every doctor believes that he can play systems analyst. Having worked for a major hospital, it's always a laugh when you ask a doctor to explain how they plan on securing their patients medical records. The best answer is that the security is built into the software. "Well, medical manager, (or HBOC, or Cerner) has built in security features.)

  22. Medical information on Electronic Medical Records Software for Unix? · · Score: 1

Well, having worked for a major hospital, the #1 patient care software is probably HBOC. Try HBOC.COM. They provide a complete enterprise system. Cerner labs, 3M, Pyxis, are some others for other areas (labratory, cardiopulmanary, pharmacy.)
