As I've already posted in a separate comment, the NOFOLLOW attribute should already be in use. It's not an issue of abuse of Slashdot; but rather of abuse of Google via Slashdot. The submitter's website has nothing to do with Slashdot or the article context. I don't think anyone has any problem with the link being there, but they are using Slashdot to artificially increase the pagerank of a completely unrelated website, possibly for commercial gain.
The submitter may not be strictly abusing Slashdot, but they ARE abusing Google through Slashdot. Their personal (commercial) website has nothing to do with any content (or context) on Slashdot. Maybe you don't remember the article you posted on your own website some time back, but the NOFOLLOW attribute was created specifically to stop people from using blogs to artifically increase their pagerank and make it appear as though their website is more popular than it is.
Your argument above indiciates that you're treating a non-nofollow link as a reward for submitting stories. In effect, you're paying "reporters" to scour the web and spam your submission queue with pagerank for their own unrelated website. If Google could filter out your submitters personal links I'm sure they would.
Yeah, some of my friends dragged me and I thought it might be a cool space/action movie. Then just before the movie starts they mention it's by the Buffy guy.
The first 5 minutes or so wasn't bad. Then it got all campy and retarded when they introduced the main characters. And by introduced I mean just jumped into the action, because they assumed you watched the show and knew who the characters were and what they were doing. I guess there were a lot of 'in' jokes too because people would crack up and I couldn't figure out why. Or maybe it just wasn't funny.
'It raises a serious question over how the US is going to demonstrate its compliance with obligations under the Biological Weapons Convention if it brings these tanks online,'
Well this is just an idea, maybe I'm crazy, but we could let someone test what's in the tanks and they would see it's not harmful to humans, as the article says.
I would imagine this is done on a per-user basis. Speaking of per-user, I really like how openoffice installs itself only onto the current user profile under Windows, even as administrator. No one else gets file associations, shortcuts, anything. That is an awesome feature that keeps anyone else from being confused.
I agree about the fonts, especially on solaris for some reason firefox looks like total ass.
I strongly disagree about the tab close button placement, however. I also use GAIM and frequently accidentally click the close tab button when i just mean to switch tabs. Yeah, it's partially my fault for being a klutz but you have to realize that placing the close button WITHIN the button to switch to the tab is a pretty retarded design decision.
I'm surprised there isn't a firefox spell check plug in. There probably is. I'm too lazy to look.
I went through several (free) corded Microsoft optical mice by wearing out the cord due to the way I had to route the cord through my strange set up. So when I ran out of free mice I elected to buy a cordless MX700 and it has been working perfectly for two years now.
Now I get pissed off when I use a corded mouse because it either gets in the way when moving the mouse forward or ends up "catching" the mouse when I pull it towards me, and it just gets really irritating.
So it's not OK to run a pirate BBS, but it is OK to share a bunch of pirated software on the Internet. Because otherwise society would fall apart. This makes a lot more sense now, thanks for clearing this up.
Hey would anyone mind if I made a slashdot mirror (minus the ads)? You know, for backup purposes, in case Slashdot goes down. Hell -- I'll even pay the $5 or whatever for a subscription, so I can make sure to mirror articles before they're posted too. Because otherwise, there will be unintended consequences.
it sounds some like assclown running a blur filter over the whole thing. Wow what a sophisticated algorithm. Maybe they should get someone who graduated from high school to do it.
What the hell do you think Windows does when the AbortProc is triggered?
Just like you said Internet would die when Windows XP was released because it allows programs to open raw sockets.

Or rather "gutsy, smart and inventive."

Sigh. Are you blind? The first time he read it the word "busy" was in bold.

Too bad "Rome" sucks anyways. That's the final "fuck you" when you are actually able to download an episode.
Even if the rumor is completely true, no company is going to trust Google to host their internal documents.
Because we all know mammals evolved into cavemen that hunted the dinosaurs to extinction.
Where is the WIPO Troll when you need him?

"Heck, with numbers like that it seems like Linux could run circles around XP Pro for audio/video apps such as streaming, recording, and playback!"
I think that is probably the dumbest thing anyone has ever written in an "article" write-up on Slashdot. That is saying a lot. Wow. Simply stunning.
I read that three times and don't see anything that can be construed as a laptop specifically banned. You people are fucking idiots.

1. it's beta.
2. it's free -- try it your damn self instead of reading some clown's narrative about how he uses it for school.
All this talk of slits and twats is giving me ants in my pants.
Because you know Tatooine is a gas giant. It's just like it!
What difference does it make when they get all their profit from shipping and "handling" charges.
What is this about fingering dykes anyways?

It's not right. It needs a fucking scale. I can't tell how far shit is.
