Somehow I can't see myself wanking over the latest "Street Fighter IV Alpha Turbo Tournament Plus Super Mega Twelve Way Battle For Great Justice" Machine..
And Besides, The Romp tried this pay for play service. While original, the Romp's quality isn't high enough for me to pay $30/year.
Some of their works (OZ vs OZ) are great, but certain others (Booty Call, Cooties, Sex in the Inner City) have either sucked from the beginning, or have continued downhill for far too long. Perhaps when they get their $3000 a year, they'll be able to pull up quality. However, I doubt people are going to be willing to pay for play on a buncha stupid flash games.
Darn, we'll have no Salon or Slate to read. Big deal. Live by the annoying ad, die by the annoying ad.
Maybe when they finally come off their "dot-high", they'll realise that positive-growth business models are what people find sexy in the post dot-boom era. Apparently this high is wearing off.
Now if we can keep them from using the "trendy" Utne Reader and Atlantic Monthly terms like "Zeitgeist" and "Sea Change" we'd be on to something.
Columbia/TriStar decided they did not want the Artisan supplementary materials if it meant that the long version of the movie would be released on DVD in the US prior to its foreign release, which they thought would encourage piracy.
In other words, Columbia TriStar was woried about hacked decks, not film piracy. They were afraid they couldn't get a foreign version out in time, thus losing money to region one hacks. Stick a fork in the film industry, if that is what is meant. They're done if they think CSS and unhackable decks will keep up forever.
I don't confuse atheism with anything. My point is that the could be christians insead of insisting on no gods, and do no good regardless. I don't confuse atheism with anything, thanks. I am one.
Oh. I didn't mean to imply anything. Sorry. You are right "we" as atheists are all individuals. It's just easier to refer to the inclusive term. But you cannot have a cult of nothing; that is correct.
The central theme of communism, etc could have been christianity, and the results would have remained the same. A lot of those people who followed through with the atrocities were probably closeted religious. Even though a regime is officially atheist (actually atheist with a thin shroud of flavour of the day) it does not make what they do in any way in the "name of atheism".. atheism was only a part of the equation.
I don't think we "feverishly" believe there is no god. We don't have any evidence, and as such, we consider it folly. I'm sure you'd agree to that. But you're right: not all religions are evil cults.. Though I don't consider atheism a religion.
Totalitarianism is not a religion, nor is fascism. I think they committed these acts because they were totalitarians or fascists rather than because they were atheists. Then again, atheism isn't a religion either.
Seriously, I have to agree. For one thing, the number of "mysterious" alien species they mention. What is this, a rip off of B5's Dilgar in the Suliban? The Suliban will have to be gone by TOS, making them sound suspiciously like Dilgar. And another Enterprise(TM)? Give me a break. You think they'd find another ship name by now..
I loved DS9.. mainly because it was B5 in a Trek universe. Then again I liked B5 because it was like real life in space.
For the most part the person's message stands. Other religions, when faced with information that is a) true and b) violates their central tenets, will choose to modify their religion than to ignore the information. The semite religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) preach unwavering belief in a set of infallible books. The world is flat, and to say it is round is heresy.
They also thought the "Torture of Geordi" scene was too rough for a PG movie. Thus Soran's stupid line "his heart wasn't into it" -- which is completely out of context.
If they left some scenes in the startrek films, perhaps the newer ones like Insurrection wouldn't seem so short. 1:40 just isn't enough for some of us fans:)
I think that DS9 has been my favourite Trek series to date. It has everything that keeps people hooked, but unfortunately, it ended up the bastard child of Paramount. Voyager is treated with more care, since it's on their baby UPN..
Considering it would likely take the engines a while to come back up on an electric sub, I can see the analogy. I rather liked when "Crusade" took off on "Star Blazers" on that one. What a warm, fuzzy feeling:)
Is your screen on the whole time? If so, you should consider APM support to at least turn the bugger off. 1.14 years of continuous use is a bit much, even for a laptop.
"The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Robert A. Heinlein has a good example of using a mass accellerator to send payloads down on major cities in order to get Earthworms to stop opressing the Loonies. I believe their mass accelerator was magnetic as well.
Not to mention you are in a fluid with a possibly very hot, fast moving projectile. 1) Equal and opposite reactions 2) Explosive shockwaves as the projectile leaves the rail. Not good.

Sounds like the boilerplate used on about every website on earth. I don't think they'll "publicly perform" your password.

Is what I said somehow not true? perhaps you can "enlighten" me an this issue.

Paris: Captain, the Borg are trying to pull us in with a tractor beam!
Janeway: Direct a Tevatron pulse through the deflector grid, that should disable their tractor beams.

Yes, but we all know that the Prime Directive can be over-ridden by the Omega Directive.. Amazing to what lenghts they will go to write an episode.
Ouch. You are right about the Berman rip-off thing though. I did enjoy both B5 and DS9 though.

Tell me how it's a theory?
Slashdot | It's Official: Deckard Was A Replicant
*seriously thinks of getting a tivo now*
That certainly is a compelling reason to get one.

Just checked TVGuide's webpage. No DS9. darnit.

Damnit, Jon, write a book and LEAVE US ALONE!! It stopped becoming a geek thing a long time ago, and it just became a Katz thing!
