Canada, for instance, has a parliamentry democracy that is very different from the US. The US is one of the few representative republics in the world.

and your FAITH in the fact that the US gov. doesnt hide things from congress during times of "peace" (we have been at war for the last 60 years: WWII, cold war, gulf war, war on poverty, war on drugs and war on terrorism) is rather silly. How could Congress become "cranky" if they DONT KNOW ABOUT IT? The only thing Congress can do is manipulate domestic policy: taxes, judges, health care, etc. etc. matters of "security" and foreign policy dont need Congress. The US was WAGED WAR without congress.

Finally, you cleary hold as a matter of faith that security and peace are best when they are enforced. This is a long standing American myth as old as Ulysses S. Grant and is reflected in the gun laws and American foreing policy since Roosevelt.

I can understand keeping military operations secret, but the development of the most powerful technology to grace the earth? Using taxpayers money?

i think you missed the point. Its not the bomb per se, its the ability of the government to do this anytime it pleases. If it can hide an operation this ENOURMOUS, then it can do pretty much as it pleases on any issue without a second thought of the people. Thats a big loophole, and it shows that democracy (ie elections by the people) does not equate to free and open government. Congress is merely an illusion and the government doesnt need it to do anything, including spend your money to kill people.

  4. Some Facts About the Bomb on The Making of the Atomic Bomb · · Score: 2, Interesting

For me, the bomb is a really good case on the illegitamcy of democracy or at least the need to fix it up.

    6 years
    43,000 Employees
2.2 billion dollars in a time of war
    7 installations
operations in 19 states, including Canada
    the multinational marshalling of expertise

All this was hidden from congress, the vice president, and many other high ranking gov. officials. It was strictly censored from the media as well.

Once invented, the same companies that produced televisions were hired to manufactured the bomb for the government. I mean RCA, NBC, and General Electric.

Of the 85,000 feet of film shot in Japan depicting the massive chaos and suffering the bomb inflicted, ZERO made it onto television because of a STRICT GOVERNMENT PRESS BAN until the 1980s.

Production companies prefered to depict test explosions, especially at the beautiful Bikini Atoll (now non-existant).

How can we make any claim that we live in a democracy?

Well I think there is something to this, however I have read a lot of studies that indicate piracy does not detract from corporate profits whatsoever. In fact it makes them grow because the ability for users to hear an artist inspires them to support them (at least they think they are by buying the CD). Piracy promotes numerous smaller artists.

The proof is in the pudding:
Sony is one of the world's largest producers of music, and is one of the largest manufacturers of CD copying/producing hardware. This would be a conflict of interest if cd copying had any effect on sales.

My theory is that if companies can sell to the politicians the idea that they are losing money on CDs (which they do by donating large sums of money to their campaigns), then they can get laws passed like say, oh I dont know, levies on the sale of blank CDs, CD copying software, and MP3 players. In Canada these levies (at the bare minimum) double the price of the purchase.

EA has a profit strategy: buy up well known brands or borrow logos. Thus you get them acquiring or using,
    Command and Conquer

    NFL/NBA/NHL
They make HUGE profits, and largely by having abyssmal customer service and no maintainence of their games. I have been playing Red Alert 2 for a while now and it is absolutely hilarious. The entire online gaming environment has been hacked and it has been like this for months. The enivornment uses IRC to handle its chat and game rooms and people have got in and are now advertising stuff such as the www.fuckea.com website. Since EA pays NO ATTENTION to its games or users this isnt changing, nor will it ever soon. Thus I recommend you stay away from EA products, and check your games to make sure that the company you thinking you're buying from hasnt been recently acquired.

  10. EA doesnt care on Sim-Dud? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Sure we can attribute the Sims' decline to the pay-for-play model or the lack of any moderation in a game played largely by teens, but I think there is a greater, overarching reason for this:

EA simply doesnt care about their customers, and they have no interest in maintaining the loyalty of them.

Anyone who has ever played one of their games knows this. They destroy every multiplayer enviroment by allowing cheats to be used, thus ruining the integrity and playability of their games. They refuse to do anything about cheats, thus cheating paying customers out of money. They outright refuse to help customers who have problems with their software. Many of their gaming environments have been taken over by hackers to which they REFUSE TO RESPOND! (In fact when logging on to multiplayer Red Alert one is met with a hacked ad for the site www.fuckea.com, set up by disgruntled players). They have discontinued the Westwood branch of their corporation in order stop maintainence of their games. Basically they simply refuse to help their paying customers enjoy their game, and in some cases ruin it for them.

I'm not surprised TSO failed, not am I that they used false advertising tactics in order to sell the game (apparently some features such as running a business or a casino are not available to users, yet this is advertised on the game box). This Christmas cash grab just goes on to prove to me how poor the company is, and I for one will not be supporting them at all in the future.

I demand morals and integrity from people, so why should I expect any less from a group of people?
