Hmmm. In Chicago, New York, Washington DC and others guns are all but illegal and they have very heavy crime problems. But, in places like Vermont and many other places that allow folks to walk around with loaded firearms crime is down. Washington DC and New York really are the biggest counter points to your statement though. Of course this is Karma suicide as a lot of anti-gun nuts reside on /.

It was a tough battle, and thanks to that bastard Clinton there are things we can no longer own. Doesn't seem to keep the local bangers from getting their toys though.

    3) How much money did you stop making during those 8 years?

Has nothing to do with how much I made. Why should I be forced at gun point to give my money to people who don't deserve it and aren't willing to help themselves? And don't say "it wasn't taken at gun point.", don't pay your taxes and let me know what happens, eventually somebody with guns will show up!

Because if Al Gore had been president any of the following may have happened:

    1) We would have surrendered before the second plane hit the WTC.
    2) Only criminals would have guns.
    3) Even more money would be taken from my pocket to support inner city kids who don't understand "Gang Banging" isn't a productive life style.
    4) We would be paying $5.00 for a gallon of gas, to put in a sub-standard 1000 pound car that would be destroyed when it collided with a june bug.

    Didn't work.

    According to Merriam-Webster [m-w.com]:
democracy: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.

    Hmmm, you forgot:
Republic: (1) : a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.

See, it's a republic because if citizens could vote at the federal level they would vote to overtax the rich and give themselves the money. Thereby bankrupting the country within months.

The key to a Constitutional Republic is that lawmakers are bound by the constitution. We have several checks and balances to make sure that happens. You, the voter, do not get to vote on federal issues.

There exists a division between federal rights and states rights and your are entrusted to vote on state issues. The catch is that the state (little s) can not trump the State (big s). In theory anything the states do that violates the constitution will eventually be bitch slapped by the SCOTUS.

So yeah, the State gives you the illusion you have some power by letting you vote on some local issues. But in reality this is like deciding if you want your car in Black or if you want your car in Black, your choice!

It does look like Microsofts hold is slipping. But, they can always reel things back in by making more changes to their office file structures. It's not the page content to be concerned about. If google is constantly hitting pages with tens of thousands of these links the DNS servers are going to start having serious cache problems. I'm sure google runs their own dns servers (at least caching servers), this technique would play havoc with that.

I don't see anyway a search engine could prevent this. It has no prior knowledge of the domain in the link until it tries to resolve it.
