    And trying to write anything non-trivial will have you cursing Apple 7 ways 'til Sunday. It's a still-evolving language with lots of warts and weird behaviors. It has a few cool ideas (for what is intended to be a common language), but very poor execution on many.

    Try creating an immutable array, for one.

    Is that actually using i outside the loop, or are you just implicitly defining i after the loop? I don't know the answer, but based on my knowledge of JS, either could be the case. The latter is not a scope issue.

    With IBM, you paid (pay?) for performance. They don't hide the fact that their hardware is more capable than what you are getting, if you aren't paying for top tier performance.

    The funny thing is that all of those were objectively better in performance than what PCs were using, with the (possible) exception of USB. Apple never went for the cheap option just for the sake of being cheap, but the rest of the industry never followed whole-heartedly, so Apple ended up with tech that died, except for niches.

    USB is the one that Apple dove into and somehow (probably because of the promise of cheap peripherals) got PC makers to go along. The charge was led by Apple.

    That's one of the most retarded statements I've seen on /. in a while. And this is /., so that's saying an awful lot!

    Why would Genesis mention any celestial objects other than those visible and understandable to the original recipients of the Bible? Talking about the creation of the planet we live on is a perfectly acceptable thing to do when space flight of any kind would not occur for another 3-4000 years.

    Hebrew is an Akkadian dialect, and comes from further east than the Canaanites. And modern Hebrew script is Assyrian in origin. I don't know about the original script, though.

    Mailing list software is not the author of any email it distributes on behalf of a list user.

    That is only true in the sense that the list-serv isn't creative in the Human sense, and did not author the words contained in the message. From a technical standpoint, however, it is perfectly valid to state that list-serv software is authoring the message. It just happens to be quoting verbatim from some random message it received.

    That only helps if every single piece of software that you'd ever want to run in a server environment runs on your chosen perfect OS. In the real world, virtualization allows for different OS's in the guests.

  25. It's a lot safer if a random thief breaking and entering your home does't know for certain if you have a gun. For one, he won't be going specifically to steal your gun. And he won't necessarily pack any heat of his own if he doesn't expect that level of violence.

    And of course there are plenty of people who would like to lynch gun owners as a matter of policy. A bit ironic, but that's the kind of hysteria the U.S. experiences every time someone goes on a rampage.
