The idea that ANY OS is safe from malware is a slashdot fallacy. It's simply not the case anywhere, for any OS in history. No OS protects the user from the user.
There is no proof that malware is as able to exploit its way to privilege escalation on Windows 7, and that's all any reasonable person can ask.
Windows if far closer to having a capabilities system than most popular Unixes. How many times have you configured, say sshd, to only have permission to open port 22, but not do anything else as root?
In Windows, you can give an application access to specific system capabilities (through users/groups). The granularity may not be as fine as it could be, but it's there.
"Forcing" you to use the online version of a free service so that there is a chance to display ads is not evil. It's not even remotely evil. It's not bad. It's not wrong.
You are a greedy shit. I would think that's actually evil.
You are incredibly stupid. Knowledge and intelligence are not equivalent. Of course, as you appear to have neither, it's no surprise that you don't know this.
Windows security is light years beyond the typical Linux system. Full ACL protection for virtually every object in the system. Some Linux systems might have a filesystem that allows ACLs.
In a free market, it is an expectation that one will not have any goods one cannot create or trade for. In practical terms, if you don't work, you have no goods. So, the only way high unemployment is sustainable is through socialism. That is, society must pay for it. Period. There is no other option.
How many times will Apple have to enter a market with a product that creates instant mass-appeal to a segment that was not previously seen as a target audience before you admit that maybe Apple has something most companies don't?
A modern Linux kernel will, by default, allow programs to allocate memory forever, or until there's not enough kernel memory available to track new allocations. There is also an OOM killer, but I don't know if it's enabled by default.
In any event, Linux does not work as you describe.
I have an alternative keyboard available on my iPod Touch. Of course, it comes with the base software, as part of i18n support. But, before OS 3.0 added cut/copy/paste, I had an alternative input method that created a clipboard. This is something that Cocoa natively supports, though you need to Jailbreak to get in on the iPhone. Apple won't approve an "app" that is an input extension.
I have an app that allows me to keep any app, Apple or 3rd-party, running. The OS supports this just fine. I use it to keep a few apps running constantly.
In short, you're a biased idiot who knows nothing about the iPhone and its OS.
That is the choice of the networks involved. They can be nothing more than mouthpieces and enjoy full Presidential support, or they can set themselves up as opposition and find themselves off the friends list.
I know it's hard for your limited intelligence to comprehend, but there is no requirement for any part of the Government to hold press conferences about anything with anyone. It is purely voluntary.
The parent is not a troll. He is an ignorant piece of shit who hasn't used an MS product since 1994.
I consider you to be an idiot of the highest degree.
And I bet everything I own that I am more correct than you.

You are wrong. Malware, as a whole, does not rely on ANY privilege escalation at all. Capabilities are just another way to get privilege escalation.
Windows is actually very secure, or it can be configured that way. It's the users who are hopeless.
You have a strange idea of what constitutes "solid proof", even for a slashdotter.
You are a massive idiot and asshole.

It's still early in the day for me, but so far your post is the most stupid and idiotic piece of shit that I've read.
Congratulations, or something.
Please explain how an application is not running "arbitrary code on my machine".
Idiot.

Electrical production is not a service. Neither is water, in the sense that it must be processed to be potable.
If you don't understand that, it's unlikely you understand much of anything related to economics.
... writes the guy wasting time on slashdot.
A threat would be something that takes iPhone users away from Apple. Nokia hasn't done that, and I doubt they will any time soon.
If you don't understand the Market, nor Apple's business model, you are doomed to make stupid comments on slashdot.
You are an incredible asshole.

I hate Java with a passion, so not having it isn't a lack for me. However, I run non-Apple approved apps and I multitask them all the time.
I run multiple apps on my iPod Touch all the time. Simultaneously even.
You really shouldn't speak in an authoritative tone when you're actually an ignorant jackass.

You are simply 100% wrong.

Perhaps you have to grow the mate.
Capitalism is an economy driven by the non-Governmental ownership of property. I am not sure what Competition has to do with it.

You are stupid beyond belief.
Another troll by Cory. The WiFi was using a single IP address and NAT. The one connection was shutdown, that's all.
