    The United States is a country that has gone through at least 2 shooting rampages by students, one of which took place at a university.

    Anyone who believes that even vaguely credible threats involving students or faculty on school grounds will not be investigated is simply too naive or stupid to bother with.

    If Windows only ran on MS-built/branded hardware, they wouldn't have gotten into trouble.

    But Windows runs on generic hardware created by other companies and MS used their OS monopoly to force OEMs to do things their way. That was what got MS into trouble.

    Apple is not forcing any other company to do things their way in order to sell their own products.

    WIndows NT 3.5 existed at the same time as Windows 3.1 and had most of the same security features as Windows 7. The NX bit had not been implemented by Intel, so it couldn't support that, and the UAC stuff is not really needed for security. It's just a shortcut for getting admin privs without logging in as admin.

    Really the recent changes in Windows security has been in guiding the user to more secure practices, such as not logging in as admin.

    For the most part, the only thing I do on my Windows PC is play games. And browse the net, occasionally, or while playing games.

    For everything else, there's my Macbook.
