But that's because we've had 9 years of the iPhone to show carriers that they'll lose out on a lot of data charges if they don't allow iPhones on their network. When Apple was making deals in 2006-2007, they had to find a carrier that would permit them on the network to begin with. Both Apple and AT&T made out like bandits, but one of the things Apple had to give up was selling the phone on other (US) networks for a couple years.
