  1. MS Linux=Corel Linux on Will Linux Save Microsoft? · · Score: 1

I know I'd be distrustful of any release that comes from a major software company. People advised me to stay away from Corel Linux.

I made a sorry mistake by installing it onto my HD. Apparently, if you don't get the 'Deluxe' version from Corel, you can't install something as basic as Licq (without a lot of hassle, anyways) I was limited to the basics (Netscape, KVirc, etc.)
Sure, it's easy to use, but it's extremely limited.

I would have to agree with the above posts - the Linux community would spit in M$'s face. People could even go so far as to make sure their program doesn't work with Microsoft Linux.

ok, I'm done posting this +1 topic.

And then your planet (which was finishing a Level 5 Citadel) fell to a Photon Torpedo, and all of your colonists and products and money taken?

My point is, too restrictive becomes a hassle for the parent, because his kids want to go to ,say ,dickinson.edu (made up) and the censorware often winds up blocking the good sites too often.

As for the hammer analogy, censorware would be the equivalent of smacking yourself with the clawed end.

  6. My thoughts on Wine on Wine In New Skins · · Score: 1

This looks pretty exciting, with the Gnome and KDE integration. But wasn't it a general consensus that WINE was nowhere near out of alpha stages? That WINE would never come close to accurate Windows emulation?

For me, I can only get WINE to work with simple programs like EditPad and Gmud. Anything involving multiple loading of DLLS is far beyond me, because WINE refuses to acknowledge that there ARE DLLs there...probably because I'm probably not specifying the correct arguments for the -dll parameter, and I don't know how to, even with the man page.

When I tried Netscape 4.75 on Linux, it mysteriously changed file permissions with root-like privileges so I couldn't get into my /home directory, replaced every instance of the cute little Tux penguin with the AOL logo, and instituted a reign of terror on my Linux system. and made Motif the default widget theme for all my programs. Why, it even konquered the mighty Konquerer!

Everyone except for me has problems with Netscape on Linux, while, ironically enough, Konquerer thrashes my hard disk EVERY SINGLE TIME I LOAD A PAGE (probably because I'm not running it in KDE) while Mozilla just lags behind in loading pages.
