Right now, I love it. I can freely interchange my Duron and Thunderbird (not that I have one) on my Socket A motherboard. I don't have to put up with any socket type incompatibilities (Socket 370, Slot A, Socket 7) with my CPUs
But, down the road, will AMD change the socket type for its upcoming 64-bit Sledgehammer chip?
I downloaded it, renamed it KERNEL.DLL, and overwrote it in my WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Now Windows won't boot at all. Stupid Microsoft monopoly, strangling competition
I think that the Iraqi administration has been watching WarGames too much lately.
What can they do with a PSX? Play FF7 and get ideas from the evil Shinra corporation? Play Command & Conquer: Red Alert for kicks and pretend that the Allies represent the US?
In June, Gochenaur says he received a cryptic "invoice" from Kruchten saying he was being charged $1,000 for.8 Kbps in bandwidth overuse. He disputed the charge with his credit card company and cancelled his card.

WOW, this kid must be getting rich. $1000 for.8 Kbps bandwidth overuse? I'm surprised that the cops aren't busting down this kid's door for credit card fraud.
Despite my previous Corel-bashing, Corel Linux (download version) had plenty of documentation on how to set up a printer, how to work with X, and a lot more. It also had a centralized Control Center, where I could just open it up and change the X resolution and bitdepth
When I opened the GNOME control center, on the other hand, I was left with "Where do I add new hardware? Where do I change the X resolution? Where do I configure my video card?"
Whenever seeking Linux help in general..
- Linuxnewbie.org was very poorly organized, and incomplete
- Linuxnewbie.com was good, and taught me a few new commands (like dmesg) but was also incomplete
- Asking for help on #Linux on most any IRC network would earn me a link to linuxdoc.org (phrased in a catchy jingle)
- Linuxdoc.org was generally horribly out of date. When looking in the Network HOWTO, for instance, I was told to upgrade my kernel from 2.0.x
No, in Book 4, Hermione clearly states that any Muggle-made electronic devices go haywire near Hogwarts. So I don't think it would happen. Sorry, come again
In my eighth grade year, I bypassed one of the most restrictive Windows shells I had ever seen (wouldn't let you right click, CTRL+ALT+DELETE) simply by clicking the 'Start' button and clicking 'Help' and exploiting the links that led directly to various control panel applets. But then, the administration was getting these computers from a CORRECTIONAL FACILITY. Crappy Cyrix 300s, but great Creative 40X CD-ROM drives. Never mind the fact that people got in trouble if they ever used the drive.
In my sophomore year, I set Windows to automatically boot to DOS whenever it started up (BootGUI=0 in system.ini). I wanted to see if today's modern kids could handle a DOS prompt.
No one could. That was sad. Even the network administrator couldn't figure out what was going on, and one day, I saw two guys packing the computer up, so I can only assume they were shipping it back to Gateway
I wouldn't be surprised though. There aren't any computer clubs or anything of the sort at my high school, so I don't have any l33t h4x0r friends to help me out;P. The closest thing to a computer course that I have is "Web Design using MacroMedia (tm) products" (which doesn't even teach basic HTML)
Example: In the past 11 days, I've had 30 unique machines scan my laptop (at home). Of that count, 1 was a telnet connect attempt, 5 were TCP port probes, 3 were OS fingerprints, 2 were attempts to connect to the SubSeven trojan horse, one was an attempt by a known remailer to connect to a mailserver I run on another box so he can use me as a relay point, 6 were RPC connect attempts, 1 proxy port probe, 2 PCAnywhere connect attempts, 8 people tried to connect to a non-existent FTP server, and 3 people tried to connect to a non-existent DNS server. Mostly harmless, but some real jerks in there. And that's in an 11 day window.
I'm curious to know how did you get this connection information? Is it in/var/log, or where is it? Seems very interesting, I'd like to check out who's portscanning my Linux box.
At my school, all of the computers go through a proxy at the University of Utah. This proxy server also happens to have X-Stop installed on it.
Not only does this proxy server slow Internet down immensely, it pulls up cached versions of Slashdot.org from the day before.
About two weeks ago, I tried visiting gamefaqs.com. Only 15 minutes ago, gamefaqs.com had been accessible, but it was blocked. I use the old Akamai trick to get around the filter, and it works, of course, but the CGI boards don't work.
Okay, fine, fsck that. Since our system administrater thinks DOS is a HUGE security hole, I can't get the IP address by tracert, so I'm forced to use Internet Explorer to find out the IP address of gamefaqs.com. The other system administrator, who couldn't tell a DOS prompt from his butt, comes wandering over and sees me at the "this site has been blocked" screen.
He then tells me to get off of that site. I tell him that this site had not been blocked five minutes ago, and I was merely trying to find a way around it. After all, doesn't the DMCA allow a way around malfunctioning censorware?
Eventually, I end up being kicked off of the computer by the librarian, because this asswhore sysadmin tells her I'm trying to hack into a site.
Oh come on, the Windows mascot has a soulless, blank multicolored window logo, and Apple's symbol is a rainbow colored apple - and look where that got these OSes.
1. Apple would take over the world
2. Because it just is.
3. Hardcore? Are you talking about pr0n? Oh, Linux..Well then, you're such a newbie loser if you actually USE a prebuilt distro, you should build your own.
Can you imagine... the support headaches those would generate?
User: What the hell is this "K" down here? Where's Netscape? Why can't I save my pr0n to a disk? What's this "warning: the following hosts could not be found" message when I start up Netscape?
AHH! THE KERNEL PANICKED! WHAT DO I DO? WHAT DO I DO?
In my experience, Corel Linux is one of the least functional distributions I've ever seen. I am now an extremely happy user of Mandrake, so I know Linux isn't all that bad.
Getting Licq to work on Corel Linux was hell, because I couldn't find any.DEB packages to go to it, and compiling the program would generate a random error (can't find the host-cpu type? I mean, wtf?) because it lacks the most basic developmental tools. And YES, I installed Desktop Plus, for all of you that care.
And on top of that, Corel Linux would be no more stable than a typical Microsoft Win9x installation. Random reboots and freezes would be common, other times it would just kick you back to the login prompt.
Gnome on Corel Linux. Don't make me laugh, I don't want to think about it. Either you bend over and take their modified KDE desktop, or be forced to work with the command line (not that that's a bad thing).
The only surprisingly good thing was that the install was smooth, and it didn't choke when it detected my hardware.
And then they write back to you, and more spam pours into your email box. One day it's Eminem bootlegs, the next it could be Britney Spears or 'NSync crap.
I seem to remember one case where a fed-up AOL user started emailing the spammers back their own spam, with a few words interchanged. "business" to "penis" for example.
So (basically) they're "saying" that the Services "sux0rs" for anything other than regular web browsing?
I'd take a HSP 56K Winmodem over this crap any day. I'd imagine I get lower pings with more reliable connections too.

Wonder what he'll be reprogrammed to say?
"IMAGINE A BEOWULF CLUSTER OF ME"?
"HOT NAKED PETRIFIED NATALIE PORTMAN?"
"GOATS***"
assuming anyone ever bought one of those things. I mean, the question is: WHY would you want one?
If it reaches Saturn in 2004 and it's flying by Jupiter just now, then just how far the distance between Jupiter and Saturn

And I said:
"Exactly. See you in hell, punk"

Does anyone know what good the Tracer did?
Once again, the Mozilla team demonstrates their fine brush control using a mouse.

In general, my cable modem is pretty good, although sometimes it'll powercycle itself. Thank you, @home

Like I've said before in my previous posts, is NVidia just letting Glide die off?

The answers to your questions:
1. Apple would take over the world
2. Because it just is.
3. Hardcore? Are you talking about pr0n? Oh, Linux..Well then, you're such a newbie loser if you actually USE a prebuilt distro, you should build your own.
Well, guess my video card has graphics to the nth degree now (see NVidia advertisements)
I wonder what this will do to the development of Glide?
UNIX permission scheme? KISS?
I still haven't mastered chmod yet..
eFsck you

Wait, that's a Linux system utility command, I can't use that
My personal favorite is "e-tailing", whatever that is. I think it's supposed to stand for retailing, although I'll check my sources on that one

The Internet maturing? With the World Wide Web 9 years in its making? Hardly. Back in '95, did anyone envision HTML 4.0?
Were there any cheezy frame-popup, Javascript-laden, scrolling-marquee, BMP-splattered websites? Any evil ActiveX sites?
As far as I recall, no.
In my opinion, the Web is decaying.
