  1. Commandos - where 4 men suffice - no HUGE armies on Making Strategy Games with...Strategy? · · Score: 1

    I've been a Warcraft fan.

But some time ago, I discovered Commandos - its not an Army vs Army game, but 4 men vs Army game.
You choose 4 men with different skills - Sniperman, Shooter, etc. etc. These men go and destroy enemy camps, protect strategic places, and let you do around a lot of fun.
You don't need to control HUGE armies to have had played a strategic game - you control these 4 men wisely - they can hide behind a rock and wait for the enemy patrol teams to get away, and then sneak into their parked truck and get away - while bombing their camp along the way. It's all possible, and you CANNOT get away without it - WHICH WAY YOU CHOOSE is YOUR CHOICE and SKILL. The enemy is not fool and can come running in and looking for you if it finds anything suspicious - even your footsteps on ice.

This is one of the refreshing strategy games I came across - after I was bored out of WarCraft and Age of Empires stuff.

This is famous, because its Loud. Tomorrow if a Window 2000 Admin comes and says the same thing about his "correctly configured system", I'm sure nobody will be able to do anything EXCEPT for Microsoft Employees (or the code thieves...) who know of an undetected backdoor somewhere hidden underneath layers of Windows.

But then, the same can be expected of a bug in Open Source which nobody has carefully examined till yet (its possible...quite possible).

They couldn't drawn enough subscribers, or raise even a small amount of money. What does this mean? They were publishing for a broke-community? Or was that community not even bothered? Whatever be the case, the community doesn't get the magazine now. The publishers can publish it for themselves if they want. But to get the poor man publish for you requires a lot of money and encouragement.

Somewhere in the article, read "Infiltration is in no way a new concept -- after all, who hasn't clambered through an abandoned building, ducked under a fence to explore or slipped behind a barrier to see what's there?"
Really? ;-) Wonder that tendency also contributed its bit to the ideas propogating into horror movies!

when our Electronics professor came into our class for the first time, he told us to do an assignment:
A writeup about "What is IT?".
    We all did.
    He read them all.
Then he proceeded to design our course for that semester. (Infact, that was what previous semester was all about)
Incidently, IT is what appears in the name of our multi-year course, and still if you ask most of the students - they say "IT is Computers+Electronics+Communications."

  11. L.O.R.D. - nothing will ever beat it on A Little Bit Of BBS Nostalgia · · Score: 1
Legend Of the Red Dragon - I will like this game forever. I got on to a modem in 1997, and LORD was one of the hottest games in my city BBSes then. I enjoyed it, played it for hours long (telephone bills and studies both bothered).

It was cool to see some BBSes still holding LORD Tournaments - its best when you play with the cheats disabled. ;-)

Then there were so many other games...my BBS Sysop was an avid gamer himself (is still!, though he's not a Sysop anymore). So many games he had registered after seeing the response to them. There was also this game on the lines of LORD...which had Dogs in it (don't remm. the name), and you had to fetch bones, woo bitches, fight with paws and what else.

I feel bad about the fact that majority of the Sysops chose to close down their BBSes due to the Internet instead of moving the BBSes to the Internet - perhaps because most of them were hobby BBSes and they didn't have the time or money to spare....neway.

  12. Deal with Language, not environment or compilers. on Coding Classes & Required Development Environments? · · Score: 2
I have learnt Turbo C++. Now teach me how to do it in VC++.
That sort of questions bombarded our teachers when they taught our class C/C++ last semester (note - only DOS apps...no windows ones).
They first gave the class Visual C++ installed on computers, and taught them how to "create a new project", etc. etc. Then they happened to install Turbo C++. Students didn't use it - We have learnt Visual C++, not Turbo C++. Then some students attempted Turbo C++ - and were suprized to find it was similar to Visual C++. "They have copied it from Microsoft...", I heard. Then some students became proficient in using the Turbo environment and forgot about Visual one. Now - "I have learnt Turbo C++. But forgot Visual C++."

Then people ask me - I typed:
    10 PRINT "HELLO"
    20 END

in BBC BASIC a long long time back, will it work in GWBASIC ??

I take a sigh, and tell them "YES, it will" as the last explaination of the fact that they have to deal with language, not environment or compilers.

This for sure allows users to effectively close doors to e-mail spammers. As soon as the law comes into effect, you will see an enormous increase the in the e-mail filters being set worldwide (whereever the knowledge goes) to "Move into Trash whatever says ADV".

It's not unconstitutional to ban "free speech" (as they say), but it is certainly illegal to fill my mailbox with spam so that important messages bounce off + my time is consumed by their messages for FREE.

  14. Whats the alternative? on New Zealand Government To Snoop On E-mail · · Score: 1
    Yes, its BAD.

    Do we have an alternative?

Hacking is BAD too if you happen to see it from the government's point of view.
Obviously they know its no use searching for a term like "Let's Hack" through the email messages.

Its the same case as The Police has rights to search every house they suspect and have a warrant to search for. But here we are giving The Police an unlimited license to search for everything in emails. That's BAD too.

Why can't we come up with an alternative if we have to criticise the only solution in front of the government? Is there any other fool-proof (this isn't even) method to prevent "BAD" hacking?

  16. Thats The Way It Is... on nVidia's Ethics Questioned · · Score: 1
    Can we stop this?
I better say NO if talk of the present.

Because thats the way most businesses are run in the world.
Thats the way many television programs are sponsered.
Thats the way your retail shopkeeper tells you "Buy this product Sir. This one is better." when all he really wants to say "Mister. This company pays me to display their advertisements on my boards. And I'll make sure you earn me repute with them."

Recognised the familiar examples? Reminded of some other in your vicinity?

Will making fuss about a Video Card company's ethics do? Perhaps it will.
But who will see if your favourite Sound Card company is doing the same?
Maybe your buying decision of a new Motherboard was influenced by such reviews?
Maybe your dealer misguided you into buying an inferior gadget that he gets more commission for?

Most of the people who appreciate and drop a few words about the accountability of the author of editorial or the company, will soon forget the fierceness of the issue and will find no harm in buying a product that will again most probably be influenced by such reviews. period.

Because perhaps there is no other way the small(??) review sites can be run.
No site posts Open Letters thanking for the unbiased nature of a Company in giving out free products for reviews. Because then it doesn't pain them.

I don't know. It may be the case that a competitor paid this guy (??) for writing this editorial. You can never say what.
I agree we need more solid proof for making a decision about the fate of this Company in our future buying needs. But who will care for all other companies that are doing it right under your nose while you are just aiming at a single Video Card making company?

Its true that if "One site can be influenced by them, then there must be others too", and it is also true that "If one company is trying to influence them, then there must be others too".

"And Thats The Way It Is" - Celine Dion, Titanic.
