Good point. I was really surprised when you mentioned A1Books.com -- they are located in my (small) apartment complex (15 units, plus two commerical spaces), located in a NJ suburb about 30 miles from Manhattan. I never knew that anyone else had even heard of them.
I guess I should try ordering from them some time, as long as they don't make me pay for shipping.
whois didn't return a domain record -- that's a contact record, which came up because the email address contains the string you searched for. No one has registered the domain name that you want.
And I also really doubt the person who belongs to that contact handle actually works for NSI. You can put anything you want in the form.

No, they aren't broadcast stations. They are channels that are produced/owned by Cablevision.
Cablevision is only one of several predominant cable carriers in the NYC metro area... i guess there is also Time Warner and Comcast.
But that book was published in January of 1999. I remember seeing a photocopied version (in a pseudo gothic german typeface) in the 80's.
So it's probably not originally from that book.
