Here's how to do the PSU to fit.

    1. Go to your elecreonics retailer (whoever it is..) Get the extra connector and some wire.

    2. Go to your local Autoshop (Whoever that is..) and get some 'Scotchblock' connectors.

    3. Locate the 12V wires on your ATX, tap in the new connector with the scotchblock connectors.

    4. Plug in and fire it up. Job Done.

    Better still...

Imagine a server farm of multi P4s, duct the hot air away from them and you've got enough warmth there to heat the whole building/street/town depending upon the number of P4's...

This could be a great way of actually SAVING power!

Well, it has been submitted as a standard, called ATX 2.03.

If you want to look at it look at http://www.teleport.com/~ffsupprt/spec/, and it'll give you the full specs of it.

Now this might seem irrelevant, but....

These processors run at multi GHz speeds. When frequencies get that high they tend to be referred to by radio enthusiasts as the 'Microwave' frequencies, so are the CPUs actually going to be cooking themselves from inside because of the simple fact that they're going so fast?

This might go a little way to explaining why the faster CPU's need such whacking great lumps of metal bolted to them.

There already is (or was) a portable that doesnt distinguish between memory and mass storage, it's called the Psion Organiser II, 32k, but that was program, data and cache space. Of course it had the option of adding extra storage, with little plug-in 'Paks' (about the size of a matchbox) for program, data or memory. - and the release date - about ten years ago.......

And they call this The computer of the future!!

OK, so it won't have all those little features that netware had (has?) maybee it will work properly (We've got NW5+Groupwise 5.5 at the moment, so I'm kept quite busy at the moment).

If any replacement is as good as Linux is for the branded Unix OS's it might even take off.

  9. NDA's etc... on Non Disclosure Agreements in Interviews? · · Score: 1

Surely the company should get you to sign the NDA After you've decided you don't want their employment (whether at interview or termination). One elegant solution which used to be used was termed 'Gardening Leave', where the employee was in effect sent home for a couple of months (with nothing to do but tend the garden) prior to being employed by the competitor. This length of time in the computer industry should be easily sufficient for anything sensitive to become de-sensitised, and any necessary passwords etc to be changed. This I don't beleive will happen any more as the original company would still be paying the wages of someone who isn't doing any work. (That never stopped anyone before though!!!)

  10. Thermo-Overclocking on SubZero Chilled Alcohol PC Cooling · · Score: 1

Why the hell is anyone trying to do the WHOLE mobo? The only thing that gets really hot is the CPU. And what do we have next to the CPU, neatly bolted to it, yup a big heatsink. Fill in the gaps round the edges and add a couple of tubes to a cold source (even an old freezer) and you've cooled the hottest part instantly without having to p**s about with bags etc... Some people obviously want to have a writeup that everyone's gonna criticise.

There would be noise, and it'd probably be louder than leaving the standard fans in place. If you're putting a bigger fan on the other end of the tube, there's going to be more airflow, and the more airflow you get the more noise you get. (Why do you think you've got to crank-up thecar radio above a certain speed...). The other way to get around HD noise is th put a network card in it and slap a boot rom in it and get it to boot from a remote server, I don't think you could get any less noise than that!
