My first AT&T subsidized iPhone was the 4 I got last summer at launch. Since they'll give me a sub'd phone every 18 or so months (I'm eligible in December), this just means less time for me to be _not_ on the cutting edge of the release cycle.

Really? Everything I see on the web indicates that WebM is a container for VP8 video, not h.264. Now, I'm not intimately aware of the details of the two codecs, and they may likely use similar operations, but for them to be patent independent would require significant differences in their implementation. Purpose built hardware for h.264 would have to be exceptionally flexible to have firmware that could be rewritten to process VP8. Call me skeptical.

On the contrary, I bought a HD sony projector for my new house 10 years ago. It was about $6k, and put out a 120" image with decent brightness in my living room. It didn't have an HDMI input, so HD was limited to component cables (there was probably a VGA port, too, but I don't think it had DVI, and it definitely didn't had HDCP).

It was on the edge of really affordable, big screen HD, but was solidly 5-10 years after the rear projection (big box TVs) got HD.

No, the restart sequence should check a timer to determine if the initial lease has expired, and renegotiate a new IP from the server if necessary. Assuming that when you wake up that the lease still exists without checking would certainly cause problems. It's not a case that would normally get tested as it requires a large down time to accomplish, and yuo won't encounter that with normal sleep-to-wake test cycles.

I'm going to ask you an alternate question - can you set up a Google calendar for this? I know, I know - you went to a bunch of effort to roll your own, but if the department isn't too large, and you don't worry about giving everyone write access to the calendar (they're adults, right?), then a "community" style calendar might work without the need to get IT involved. I use it for two or three small organizations along with my family calendar, and it works seamlessly with the iPhone, iPad, (it better work with Android), and any box that has port 80 access without a block on Google apps.

Go grab a cold beer now - it'll help put out all the flames ;-)

It makes sense, but only once you figure it out (aka secret handshake). The combination of keyboard prediction, sensitivity, and poor average keyboarding skills combine to make the prediction more accurate than no prediction. The problem with that supposition is that rather than having a non-word typo which may be a letter or two of (and may even be phonetically correct in the case of mis-spellings), you can get wildly different words. It's also very annoying when working on technical documents for which the flow of writing does not match LOL speak.

Actually, I didn't realize until reading your post that you could click on the corrected word to dismiss autocorrect - I though you had to click the X, which often leads to clicking the area to the _right_ of the autocorrect on very small screens (like my phone) which inserts the *insert expletive here* corrected word anyway.

Neither. of those 7, only 3 or 4 will grow up to work (less than 50% of the country is employed, btw). The problem right now is that there are TOO MANY HUMANS for our economy (and, arguably, our planet). One of the big problems right now is that we have 10% unemployment, and we have to creat 150,000 jobs every single month just to break even. We really don't need more people in the workforce. Quite honestly, we need less.

I won't argue that a crack whore is a good family. Anyone having a child should be responsible though. Pregnancy is not some magical occurrence we don't understand - there are ways of not having more children. If you can't afford them, don't have them. Personally, I'd like to see the tax deduction for children be eliminated. Why should I pay for you to have more kids? For every dollar you don't pay, it's a dollar extra I have to pay. It's even worse if your kids are inpublic school. Not only do you get a tax break, but you cost the state an extra ten grand a kid? What idiot thought up that logic.

FWIW, I have one child. It happens to be the number that I feel I can afford and raise properly. You're number may be different. Hell, it might be 12. Just don't come and complain about how expensive your kids are, and how you struggle to make ends meet on $175k a year in F'ing WI for having to be at work 60 days a year.
