Wouldn't it suck if someone wrote some anti-Microsoft propoganda (and we all know THAT would never happen) and they were tracked down and sued for speaking ill of them. Good thing you can't just sue any old person for nothing at all. Wait a minute... you can!! (Doh!)
So if the monitor is only a little thicker than a credit card, then how thick are credit cards going to become!?!?!? Are they just going to slip between our molecules. Now wouldn't that be neat to see in a magic show:)
Okay, granted many high school students can't tell between when other kids are pissed off and just cursing and threatening to kill people for the sake of doing it, and when they actually mean it, but don't students have a right to feel safe as well? If I'm walking down a street and hear someone threaten to kill everyone on the block, and I can't tell if they're just angry and spouting off that anger, or if they're serious, I'm going to feel pretty damn threatened.
Nothing is wrong with informing the authorities if you feel your safety, or the safey of other is threatened. Then it's up to the authorities to figure out if it is a real threatening situation.
No on likes a tattle-tale, but they're is nothing wrong in protecting yourself.
That being said yet, yes, without schools willing to stand up and defend whom they get the information from, then they're going to see a lot less information about what goes on in their halls.
"Microsoft bought up another little company!! I'm telling the judge!!!"
Just my opinion, but don't let that stand in the way of the truth;)
I don't get how a story about the UBC engineers hanging another bug from a bridge (albeit, a more famous bridge) has warrented comments ranging from imposterings of Linux Thorvald, I'm sure he loves that sort of thing (note the sarcasm dripping sourly from my writing), statements on racism and people hoping to think they can interpret the bible into a manner that is clear to everyone when well studied theologists can't, to comments on Quebec seperation!?!?!? How does this happen?? Why can't people be respectful to the topic. If you want to discus these sorts of things take it the appropriate venue.
Oh look at me, now I'm the off topic one, doh!
Anyhow, congrats UBC (I'm from UVic across the channel), I understand the significance for the 20th anniversary and hanging the bug, but next year, try to do something really really different (maybe come to Victoria and clean the legislature's roof copper colour instead of the green copper oxide)
The recording industry and other industries would want this sort of thing for the profit!! Why can't we profit off of it? The small electronic shop and tinkerer stands to make some money from this. Now they can build analog speakers and compete with each other to build the best analog sound in the wake of digital noise!
(by the way, the name digital in conjunction with speaker can be confusing to people, to make it straight, speakers cannot be digital. But they can contain a digital to analog convert which can perform many other functions other than just converting. But the speakers themselves are not digital).
Let's break out those old home speaker kits and get a buildin'!!
Instead of paying people back with the money they put into the course, why don't they just say, hey, the course is free, but if you get hired you'll work for free for two months!:)
I guess that wouldn't really entice anyone now would it?
Put lots of monkeys onto lots of bikes and Ta Da!! We have power!! And the scientists can pretend that they're doing research at the same time. Now of course there are issuse, like we need certain monkeys simply to breed otherwise they all may die of exhaustion. But hey, we could be doing the species a favour, only the strong will survive and propogate... then... Planet of the Apes!!! Woo Hoo!!!
Oh, I totally understand that. Of course it wouldn't be an easy task, I'm just saying that it needs to be done, otherwise things that seem unfair to people that know about computers will continue to happen because businesses have a greater influence over what non-computer savvy people think, and how computer related problems should be dealt with.
They way I see it, it's about time that a whole lot of law knowledgable computer techies need to sit down and discuss the laws. Laws are out dated and courts are bumbling through because they don't know anything about technology for the most part. A group of people need to sit down and try to sort the ins and outs of how technology should be dealt with in the law. Just some general rules that specifics can come from during actual court cases.
Ever wonder what happens to the dead dot.coms? They go to a dot.com graveyard where they moan, lost souls of failed companies...
You make anything out of lego!! Well, I hope not ANYTHING... But what next? Lego H-Bombs? Maybe a Lego computer... hmm.. then I could shape my computer box to whatever shape I need it. Lego video cards... we could even build lego cars... Well I'm at it let's have lego pants and jackets!!
Don't let me mislead you, I love lego as much as the next 20 year old guy, but come on, do we have to make everything into lego then post it on Slashdot? A couple of weeks ago it was a lego train (but that was really cool). And also, what's the point of a lego desk if it's glued together? Might as well be a wood desk with a lego top.
Let's say for example I built myself a lego building. Would I glue it? No, because if I glued it together then I wouldn't be able to reshape the building on a whim, which would defeat the purpose of lego. Taking it apart and putting it back together (but let's ignore the fact that it'd probably break easily without glue)
*sniff sniff* That's so beautiful... all of our old conversations stored for later use. From years ago... wait a minute... yet followin' me eh? Keeping track of what I say eh?
*insert shifty eyed paranoid scene here*
They must be stopped... oh yes...You'll never take me alive!
Of course they're spying on Canada... Rather, us, yes that's right, I'm one of 'em. Oh yes... They just know.. oh they know... Ever wonder why 80% of Canada's population is on the Canada-US border?? So we can invade at anytime!!! MUWAHAHAH!!! That's right, us evil Canadians will soon be swarming the US and you'll all be under our democratic socialist government!
But let's just forget the fact that the US has more tanks in ONE military base than we have full-time military personel:)
Sure open source works, there's probably a lot more working open source software out there then you realize. And it sounds to me like this isn't really open source, or not intended to be open source. There's also a lot of "closed source" programs that don't work like they should. *cough cough* Micro *cough cough* soft *cough cough*.. Hmm.. seems that I'm allergic to something.
I object to that statement. Although there are many similarities between Canada and the U.S., Canada is NOT an extension of the U.S.. We are quite a seperate nation. We maintain good terms, trading deals and such but we are not just another state in all but name.
With that off of my chest. One question, how come it's alright for governments to pirate software but not individuals?? I really need my own government.
AHHH That was scary!! Too many lines and arrows and versions and things... *shiver* someone had too much free time... then again for all I can tell, someone may have just grabbed some unix names and played connect the dots;)
My question is, that they making linking, for example Slashdot illegal for "sensitive materials", but does it cover writing the URL in plain site? Like writing www.slashdot.org instead of linking it? In the article linking to illegal stuff was labelled as similar to driving someone to a house so they can burgalize it. Would writing the URL be more like pointing in the direction of the house?
My thing is that if you write the link in, it's more like saying "hey, there's a great book on making nukes that you can get at your library. It's called XXXXXX", which isn't wrong, is it?
Oh yah, and how is this going to be enforced anyways? This is another example of people that either do not understand technology making a ruling, or someone that fears the technology and is clinging to the thought that if they fight it they can bring the world back into the 60s. (would be an improvement on music;)
--I know I'm full of something, I'm just not sure what.
Then it's only a short time from when the big monitor in your room tells you when to do you jumping jacks and makes you touch your toes! (the one scene from 1984 that I remember)
But Gnutella itself doesn't actually do anything illegal!!!
If he were still alive could we sue the inventor of guns because guns are used to kill people illegally??!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Ed there invented the toilet seat that was used to bludgeon someone to death. LET'S SUE HIM!!!
Everytime I read some news now there's a new lawsuit. It seems to go hand in hand, technology equals lawsuit. A small few get in control of the technology, abuse (or not) and then those that rely on it need to sue for what they need (or sometimes what are totally unrealistic demands). There needs to be some system other than suing in place to ensure no abuse by large corporations. Suing takes way too long to get anything done and if it's really important goes through courts for years and usually gets dismissed at one level.
Someone spent an aweful long time watching wasps mate to figure this one out. I find that a little, disturbing...

I'm not asking for too much. I just want to see a revival of the old Transformer cartoons. Who's with me?!?!?!

Well paint me stupid :)
RIBBIT.

This is out of control and stupid.
Why? He's not my president ;)
