I too can see it at various rates, and have met many people who can't seem to see it even at 60hz.
However, what I have found is that raising the refresh to 80hz or higher universally reduces eye strain and headaches - even for people who don't notice the flicker.
I've fixed the refresh rate for so many friends and family members that I'm now wondering why "they" even bother offering those refresh rates anymore (let alone making lower ones the default) - and who cares about supporting older video cards. If you're buying a newer monitor, you'll probably want a new video card too (if your card is so old that it can't manage 80hz at a decent resolution!)
Then why are so many different releases of PHP and perl listed? That's what I was thinking...
GWBasic probably wasn't that different from Basic, but QBasic definitely was... I believe it even had procedure/method calls, which was very different than the line numbering and "goto"s and more in the direction of what Visual Basic is today.
Though I didn't realize TurboPascal was just the name of the IDE! I thought it was another version of the language.
This isn't news, but the next version of Windows will be vector based. I believe its interface is still currently being designed in 2D, but really, adding a 3rd dimension to something vector based will be trivial. The fact that the next Windows will require "above low-end" (by today's standards) video cards has been discussed here before.
But figuring out how to make it usable will be the real trick.
You use video games to replace real life? Maybe you should just stick to EverQuest.
Turn off the console, buy yourself a football and head out to the field with your friends... Better yet, buy some used skates and a stick and head to the rink!
The only reason we web developers have to "worry about another browser" is because of the lack of standards compliance - most often perpetuated by MS and IE!!
I didn't read the article carefully, but I glanced over it didn't quite understand how these things work...
Does the their need to be constant power for the fasteners to keep working? I would guess that they would need to use a certain amount of power to be ready for the remote signal to fasten or unfasten.
The picture at the top suggests that they are wired - so is that for power or communication? Or both? Otherwise how are they powered, and what happens when the power source dies?
The da Vinci Project has been trying to keep a low profile and hasn't been making a lot of announcements... kinda like Rutan before the actual launch to space.
Also, da Vinci Project is entirely volunteer based, so the website gets updated when people have time. Keep checking the site though, there must be something in store since this is the least amount of activity on that site in a while.
I wonder how long before one of these is hacked and someone puts Linux on it...
I guess Windows would be more appropriate though
Ever notice that when things are well and good, they're never really well and good?
Same with fine and dandy...

If so, then sign us up. You will be assimilated.
I was talking about the first chart, but yes I think Quick Basic and QBasic are the same thing.
The second chart didn't load for me, so I haven't looked at it.

Actually, according to the chart (which I believe is correct in this case) the Modula chain has its roots in Pascal...
I think it basically lives as Delphi now. Kind of like Basic living on as Visual Basic.
I learned to program with GWBasic, QBasic, TurboPascal, Modula-3 - none of which made it into the chart...

Funny - I reacted the same way... but when Neal Stephenson called his main character Hiro Protaganist, I thought it was great.
Btw... Does anyone else hear the name "Count Dooku" and think "Care Bears"?
at least the probe isn't being compared to a Ford Probe...
Of course not - can you imagine the cost of a recall when it's that far away??

Dude! Good idea... maybe they can start a new pro hockey league!!
ACK!!

Thank you, kind sir.
about:config... who'd'a thunk it?
I don't care how good a cause it is, if they use the "blink" command for more than two words, I won't support it.
Damn.. that's pretty bad.. it even uses the words I used...
I wonder how I missed that!
I wonder if you actually have to touch them, or if the displacement of water near them could trigger them?
I thought I read somewhere that while the JWST would "replace" Hubble, there was still some things that Hubble could do that JWST couldn't.
Is that true?
Ouch that were some bads english... Sorry all, I got distracted in the middle of writing that!

Yeah, so I'm not a sys admin.
And I'm not a damn secretary.
Hell I'm not even a father (or a mother for that matter).
Yeah congrats everyone else for doing your %^&*$in' job.
When the @#%^*& is my day!?

Hopefully some of the new MS patents will be among the patents that get revoked... Patenting the 'double-click'... come'on!!
