  1. Yet another assembly book outdated at release on Assembly Language for Intel-Based Computers, 4th edition · · Score: 4, Informative

    I don't see any mention of IA-64 or Unix/Linux ...

If you are looking for a assembly book that is fun to read and goes into Linux details try: "Assembly Language Step by Step"

  2. 150K+ on Ask Singer Janis Ian About the RIAA and Online Music · · Score: 2

    The Ultimate Home Theater
This 20-person home theater earned Escient Solutions an award for "Best Home Theatre Electronic System Design Over $150,000"

At over 150K with no upper limit, any home theater could be best.

  3. CISC/RISC on Apple Secretly Maintaining x86 Port Of Mac OS X · · Score: 2

They ported a x86 OS to Apple hardware and now they are porting it back.

Does this mean that the RISC/CISC battle is over with CISC winning?

Other then that, it would be nice to have an user friendly Unix based modular OS for x86.

  4. pathchar on How to Test Your T1? · · Score: 2

Pathchar - It sends multiple ICMP Packages of diferent sizes to diferent hosts and it shows you how much bandwidth you get. Don't confuse with throughput...

Install it and give it a try. It's the smartest tool that I have used so far.

  5. Bad project management? on Do Long Work Hours Affect Code Quality? · · Score: 2

"My general feeling is that long hours is generally a symptom of poor project management"

Actually long hours are good project management but the project manager needs to understand that there will be a huge loss in effectiveness and the more overtime hours somebody works, the less effective they are. If that is not accounted for, that is bad project management.

Maybe that's the reason there are so many financially poor scientists in Russia.

If he doesn't want to come to an agreement, you post their contact info on Slashdot so they can be driven crazy by anti-patent nazis.

This is the other way around on Casio.

The Cassiopeia has a 64-bit NEC processor that is forced down to 32-bit by Casio. But at least they don't advertise it as 64 bit.

If you really want Palm OS, get a Sony CLIE which has colors that do seem more alive then the Palm colors!

  10. Memory usage on LinuXbox Boots · · Score: 2

  12. Setting goals is just a way to trick yourself on Long-Term Career Plans for Programmers? · · Score: 2

First, I think it is the worst thing to do is to project plan your life. Your life is a life and not a project where you have to deal with providing the vision to people.

What really counts is that you should like your job and give a little more then you are asked for. That accumulates. A lot. That gives you self-confidence. If you loose your self-confidence and don't do anything to recover it you are doomed to fail or never fulfill your dreams. Dreams are dreams and not deliverables!

I really hate to hear about security bugs related to SSL and anything that has to do with my personal credit cards.

Does this really mean that people that weren't ment to might have my credit card numbers now?

Should everybody have to get replacement credit cards now? It is the banks that will eat the loss but in reality it should be Microsoft. It is their fault for giving me a fake sense of security due to false advertising!

Why is it that people find it more important to research into going to the moon then research on how to build toilets? It doesn't make any economic sense unless you have a toilet and love it when people aren't allowed to look up to you on the street.

Linux is not a product. It is a complex system that makes computer hardware work properly. It exists mainly because of it's natural environment. Linux coders want to mainly make thing work right for themselves. They share it with others because they are not in the business of creating OS's.

Check salary survey results on dice and see how much more money Unix professionals make compared to Windows professionals.
