  7. What type of logic was used? on Lucky Green vs. Palladium · · Score: 4, Insightful

If his patents are granted, MS will be unable to use Palladium to enforce software licensing. If MS challenges his patent, then we all know thier true intentions.

What about Microsoft sues him just because they can and they are pissed at him for trying to show off as a geekero? Would that mean Microft's intentions are to use Paladium to enforce their licenses? It just does not make sense.

As much as I don't like Microsoft, I still believe that they can and are going to enforce their copyright however they can. It is their right to do so.

On a second thought I don't believe Lucky Green really has enough technical details about Palladium to be able to create a foundation for his patent. You have to describe how you do it not only that you do it. For example you can't patent a levetating car if you don't know exactly how you are going to do it.

  16. ASCII character on The First Smiley :-) · · Score: 2

Remembering from the old DOS days there was an ASCII character resembling a smiley face. A lot more efficient and keyboards would have looked cooler if that standard would have been established and keyboards designed to adopt it.

Maybe line feed should be replaced in POSIX based systems with a smiley. It would be very entertaining to see a smiley at the end of every line in MS ASCII files.

  17. The paging daemon on Helping Computers Help Themselves · · Score: 2

That's what it does. It waits for you to fill up your memory before it starts using the disk as memory.

What do you do when you need to run a CAD program on a system with low memory? Do you need a daemon ouside the box to talk you into not starting and using that app?

All this seems to be is increasing userfriendliness by limiting you to what you can do. I'd rather see a blue screen due to my evil memory editing in debug.
