It's Open. It's available to you. If you think you can deliver consumer products at high volume using the techniques that you prefer, go for it. Isn't the point of Open Source to have it exploited to further your, or some corporations business interests? Or both even? Besides, I don't see many do-it-yourself cell phones on the market.... If not Nokia/Apple then who?
Sure, it's not a perfect world, but a Nokia/Apple communicator is certainly going to be way more fun, and with more possibilities to build off of compared to a PocketPC based phone. Best of all, it'll probably work way better than a Microsoft or RIM product.
yeah. for right now.... They had to say that. But..... If you had an OS -and- enough applications to make a viable run against Microsoft, how could you resist? Apple knows what happened when iTunes was released for Windows.. it got huge. They are just playing it cool, waiting for the strong opening, and right now, they don't have everything they need for a knockout punch.
There -will- be a OSXi version for PCs, but not for a year and a half. First, Apple needs a critical mass of applications and drivers ported to it, and that's the phase that has just started. It would make no sense to release OSXi for "everyone" at this point in time. To do so would waste the moment. But in 18 months, when there's bunches of apps and drivers... then the time will be right. Boom goes the dynamite.
We can't have our cake and eat it too... Is that true? Isn't it possible to have an upward spiral? Wages increase, you buy more stuff, companies are more profitable, pay more...
Perhaps the problem is that there are a few that want their cake, and the cake of 100 others, and they are in the position to make that happen. And as time goes by, having 100x your serving of cake isn't enough, the measure becomes that you want %10 more cake then you got last year. So after 10 years, you've got enough cake to last you and yours several lifetimes.
Meanwhile, there's 1000 cake bakers standing in line holding empty plates.
Get an iMac. It's got the form factor you want and you can stop spending half your time keeping the system healthy and running tired software from the '90s.
Sure you'll have to learn new things... but itn't that better than spending time de-lousing another tired Windows box every week?
Your only regret will be that you hadn't done it sooner.

Actually, the "inspiration" for Window's new look, starting with Win95, was lifted directly from NeXT. Sure, some things were moved around, but the look of the windows widgets like the scroll bars and close boxes, all of the dialogs and the now familiar grey beveled buttons with sans serif text...
At the time, NeXT was well under the radar, Microsoft needed a new look up from Win3.1, so hey, let's steal from those guys.
I've got an Audiovox PNP2, and the new JVC Gen 2.5 PNP.
The audiovox is big and runs -really- hot. The JVC uses the new Gen 2.5 chipset and gives off minimal warmth and is about one third the size, due to the new, efficient chipset.
They've gotten the technology refined quite a bit from the first release of the radios. The first ones ran hot because there's an exceptional bit of processing needed to find, refine, and process the signal.
Pretty amazing that they got it to work so well actually.
The report is only a fragment from a probe droid in the Hoth system, but it's the best lead we've had.

When I read it, I could have sworn is said Do Stealth Starships Suck?
I thought "How esoterically geeky, even for Slashdot."
It's my opinion that if stealth mode gives you a tactical advantage, why not?
Discuss.

"Why are we so lagged out considering there's only 12 of us here?"
These gatherings are a great concept, but until Linden Labs solves it's performance problems, groups of more than 20 people just are not practical.
I peed in my fridge! And you know what? It worked!
The fridge is still cold, and I felt totally relieved.
Next up, the TV. I'll post pictures!
Funny how that works..
I buy a $500 thing, add $1000 more in options, and it increases the cost 300% !!!!!
Outrageous. Damn Apple.
Why would anyone need Java when there is C!
explain why this is a troll.

The main thing stopping me from getting a Mac... Price.
Or ignorance more likely.
Sun sucks, they need to understand that their products are too expensive.
In a strange twist, it was reported that the man killed was dressed like Gordon Freeman.
Wow. After your post, I'm sure I know who I'm voting for,
Sure you will.

SecurIT Informatique Inc. Montréal, Québec?
(security is everyone's responsibility)
Every version of the iPod was predicted to "fail". From the original 5Mb to the mini.
And every prediction was incorrect, to say the least.
The iPod Photo will be wildly successful, and evolve to be the standard by which all others are judged.

Why didn't you suggest that the USA needs to try and imitate the latter?
I will. You first.
