I think a more informative statistics are something like 'infant deaths per million' or 'death by starvation per million' or something like that than pure economic statistics.
Quite simply, a large number of people are poor because they are stuck in the low income trap inherited over several generations. Something to be able to break away from this situation : a good educational system, a good medical system, a good social-security system. what do the republicans do : strip away these systems to their bare minimum... and LESS.
"And, to top it all off, he has the right -- nay, the sacred duty -- to report you to the Holy Inquisition for heresy or just not being a good Christian, and woe to you if you actually criticize him."
Let me rephrase that :.. for not being a good patriot, and woe to you if you actually criticize him.
"Everything else that he owns is (if he is an even half-wise investor) still producing something elsewhere."
Suppose it isn't farmland, but houses. Now suppose that he can raise the value of 80% of those houses by more than 20%, just by holding the rest of the market ?
"You use oil every day" : I don't, I use renewable energy, and i go to work by train. The true scientist will drown or die of hunger when the climate change hits hard.
we change the reflectiveness of the earth by building cities,roads... . We change the composition of the water. we change the composition of the air. In fact we change everything which could have an effect on the climate and on the weather. And people still believe we can't possibly have an effect on the world we live in ? The trouble is of course: how do you prove that ? Well... until the change is clear and the ball is rolling, we won't be able too, when it is too late. Ever wonder how big an equilibrium the climate is ? And how hard it is to change it ? And how even harder it is to change it back? Too much (oil-) money is at stake to take action.
In a situation in which we have a US vs. the rest of the world, NO-ONE WILL WIN. Even when the US does a walk-over of the rest of the world, what would be left of the US-life style? (which can only exist if third world countries provide products at slaver-labor prices)
When saying "preserve the environment", we say : don't actively wipe out species. Bio-diversity is the crucial term here. "Human beings are currently causing the greatest mass extinction of species since the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. If present trends continue one half of all species of life on earth will be extinct in less than 100 years, as a result of habitat destruction, pollution, invasive species, and climate change." http://www.well.com/~davidu/extinction.html
my understanding of liberalism and libertarian : liberalism : free to do and say whatever you want, as long as you don't interfere with other people's liberty. libertianism : free to do and say what you want, and F*CK the other people.
where do i get one ?

some numbers : on 9/10 and on 9/12(and on 9/11), more than 30000 people died of malnutrition.

Let me rephrase that :
"Because the production costs are still the same." Not when there is no land available to build on ...
"Gotta love supply and demand." ...
That was my point : if the "rich" get too "rich" they can screw around with supply

wasting energy(oil/coal/...) = wasting money

in theory you would be right, in practice however ...

That would be funny ... if this(only those 2 choices) wouldn't be the worldview of many republicans.
I would argue that for many people 70% of the brain is air.
that probably makes up for all the hardened surface (roads, buildings) of which water is being led to underground pipes.
4 --> and when something like Tsjernobil happens? FYI : 99.9999% safe != 100% safe
Not included in the cost of nuclear :
-building
-demolishing
-storing the leftovers
-insurance
Who pays that ? you and me, the taxpayer.
