    I think a more informative statistics are something like 'infant deaths per million' or 'death by starvation per million' or something like that than pure economic statistics.

    Quite simply, a large number of people are poor because they are stuck in the low income trap inherited over several
    generations. Something to be able to break away from this situation : a good educational system, a good medical system, a good social-security system.
    what do the republicans do : strip away these systems to their bare minimum ... and LESS.

    Suppose it isn't farmland, but houses. Now suppose that he can raise the value of 80% of those houses by more than 20%, just by holding the rest of the market ?

    we change the reflectiveness of the earth by building cities,roads ... . We change the composition of the water. we change the composition of the air. In fact we change everything which could have an effect on the climate and on the weather. And people still believe we can't possibly have an effect on the world we live in ? The trouble is of course: how do you prove that ? Well ... until the change is clear and the ball is rolling, we won't be able too, when it is too late. Ever wonder how big an equilibrium the climate is ? And how hard it is to change it ? And how even harder it is to change it back? Too much (oil-) money is at stake to take action.

    In a situation in which we have a US vs. the rest of the world, NO-ONE WILL WIN. Even when the US does a walk-over of the rest of the world, what would be left of the US-life style? (which can only exist if third world countries provide products at slaver-labor prices)

    When saying "preserve the environment", we say : don't actively wipe out species. Bio-diversity is the crucial term here.

    my understanding of liberalism and libertarian :
    liberalism : free to do and say whatever you want, as long as you don't interfere with other people's liberty.
    libertianism : free to do and say what you want, and F*CK the other people.

    -storing the leftovers
    -insurance
    Who pays that ? you and me, the taxpayer.
