The best form of government is a dictatorship with a good dictator.
The worst form of government is a dictatorship with a bad dictator.
My guess : a good dictator becomes a bad one after a period of time, for a variety of reasons, including greed and pressure of the people surrounding him/her.
And although everyone here likes blaming the bush administration for everything, this particular issue was botched by the judicial branch, not the executive one Yes, those two branches are entirely separate; the two groups behind them are not the same people.
but I think there's more practical arguments that you can make for taking further measures against them than "ZOMG TEH EARTH WILL HEAT UP & KILL US ALL!"
If you don't yell they won't even listen to you. And even if you get some tiny 'airspace' for your elaborate argument, you get truncated, and flooded by 'treehugger', 'not scientific', 'we're not sure about that', 'can you prove it' ,... and nothing changes; just because the majority doesn't want to lose their luxury. But you don't have to lose luxury to drastically improve our effect on the environment
What about simple precaution ? We are not sure about global warming in any direction... Lets just be cautious and lower our emissions, it isnt that hard.
A world where the US decided to get rid of their armed forces completely would not be a happy one for the 280 million odd people living there. You REALLY believe someone wants to take over the US ? Why ? I can't think of 1 good reason. You would think there would be crazy fundamentalistic people to do that, but their aren't that many. Your police force can take care of them... And when you abolish your military, you can start happily trading with everybody. So : the military is a big fucking waste of money... except when perhaps your leaders have big stakes in the weapons and oil industry... are you starting to think about it now ? (from the rest of the world:)PLEASE?
Have you stopped to consider the fact that, per capita, the second half of the twentith century was one of the least bloody in modern history? And the US was nearly the only reason for this violence : either by directly attacking countries, or in case of the middle east : letting religious nuts control Israel and Palestine; in case of africa : put dictators in place by means of selling weapons to them (in exchange for minerals)... need i go on ?
There's a world-wide workers union needed, with as most important objective : world-wide minimum wages. This is absolutely necessary, because employers already work globally, and by pitching different countries(the workers of those countries) against each other, they can exploit maximally leaing to 21th century feudalism! This is why nationalism is the new opiate for the masses, keep 'em stupid !
But i don't want to be in your shoes matey. Your democracy is in danger. From the rest of the world : "Please, act now, it's not too late to make critical changes in your great nation"
what about nuclear waste ? We could probably store it safely deep underground. Or we could 'lose' it in the sea. The latter is cheaper. Wind power is even cheaper than that... and if we used only 25% of the research energy wasted into nuclear fusion to pursue even better windmills and better storage (hydrogen), we could have already replaced the oil-based economy with a wind-powered one.

Using different measurements for different purposes ... are the Americans making it hard for themselves on purpose ?

Yes, those two branches are entirely separate; the two groups behind them are not the same people.
>then people have power over the government.
shouldn't they ? If it doesn't, Demos-krateios doesn't mean sh*t.
>consuming entertainment

And can we now please take some PRECAUTIONARY ACTIONS?
In my opinion, it is not just the absence of parasites and such that causes these problems, but also the overuse of chemicals like soap.
no ... a sprite with a +2 InternetExplorer ...

exactly *who* is the bad guy ? [sarcasm]Is that the one who has more oil in the ground ?[/sarcasm]
what people call communism, is in fact a very small layer of socialism painted on a hard core of fascism ... a 1-party-system.

Reading your comment makes me think you want the government to do anything it wants ? Power corrupts; Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Sacrifices? Great! I'll get my outfit ...
[sarcasm]what luck we have that the US is still in there.[/sarcasm]

The only way to protect yourselves from dictatorship is NOT voting with your wallet, not voting for the big parties, avoiding monoplies ...
