Their self-driving tractors that can compute the optimum path to cover a field, their ability to track how much is harvested per acre, which get's uploaded to their central servers so they can crunch it and sell it back to the farmers.

Unfortunately, the laws (pushed by John Deere, and I think Case as well) do not distinguish between software and hardware.
I remember watching my Uncle pulling a starter out of a Chevy Impala and putting it into a John Deere in under 30 minutes so he could go out and feed the cows. I fear those days are probably gone (Note: that particular chore doesn't require any of the proprietary software)

Soy has more carbs and less protein than chicken breast. Not a whole lot, but it can throw you off if you are tracking carefully.

What is the difference between a drone and a remote controlled toy?

What about those remote controlled helicopters/airplanes - are the sale of those going to be regulated because some people fly them in urban areas? What's the difference (legally) between a $1000 gas powered 10lb helicopter with a 5 foot wingspan and one of those $20 battery powered indoor helicopters you buy at Big-5 and fly for 1 minute/charge? (until you sneeze and blow it across the room)

20 years ago i had a model rocket that went several hundred feet in the air before spreading it's wings to come back down - no control whatsoever - is that more or less dangerous than a quadcopter being controlled through a remote link, or following a pre-programmed path?
What if I put a camera or some other payload on that glider - is it a drone now?

Is anything that flies without a human being on board to control it considered a drone? What about paper airplanes?

Minor nitpicking here, but this is the internet...

An EMT is not the same as a Paramedic. EMT's can give O2, Intubate, do CPR, insert an IV, provide basic care etc... A Paramedic can give drugs on the scene (after consulting with a dr - usually over the radio), emergency surgery in trauma cases, and probably a lot more. I think it's the difference of 80 hours of school for an EMT versus 400 hours of school for a paramedic, but don't quote me on those numbers.

  22. Re:It's Fantasy not Sci-Fi on Tron: Legacy — Too Much Imagination Required? · · Score: 1

Agreed - I saw it as a classic example of Joseph Campbell's "Heroes Journey" tale.

The hero is offered a challenge, which he initially refuses, but then gets forced into taking. He meets a mentor and a love interest, the love interest gets herself in trouble and has to be rescued, basically giving the hero his motivation to further his quest, the mentor sacrifices himself at the end so the hero can finish his journey and discover something about himself.

There were other movie formula's thrown in - the villain's henchman originally was on the hero's side - and has a last minute change of heart, turning against the villain, and sacrificing himself in the process.
And the mulligan was Flynn's disk.

But going back the original post - the setting is too close to present day real-life for people to accept a Heroes Journey at face value. It just doesn't seem right. "Not enough imagination".
