They should also complete the loop and list companies that get paid to advertise Adware. High on the list of those companies is Google. I believe that they make millions advertising adware on their search results and through their adsense network. I'm sure that Yahoo and other big ad networks are also to blame.
Worse yet, they are often misleading. Searching google for spyware removers gets you ads for more spyware!!!
I'm a one man shop, and I could stand to go to just one language.
I could see reducing simliar languages (python and ruby maybe?)..
But, python, java, C and.net can be very different.
I'm sure they are letting the rumors run amock to get some press, but google is already doing the white label thing for AOL. Since Amazon has a market for selling ads, this would make sense. They wouldn't want to get involved with the yahoo patents either.
And many of them are real sites taht have done nothing "wrong". They have not recourse.
I was one of these sites. I ran a comics site that did not spam or have any 'doorway' pages. However, Google's code decided it was not fit for their search and "delisted" it. I contacted their support and even personally talked to employees that I knew, but no luck getting the site listed again. It's now been over 7 months. Since then I've moved on to other sites.
The moral of the story is: If Google doesn't like you, you're done. Pack up your things and go home.
Yes, if you don't want change, implement a broken change control system.
I was not "web-monkey-I-can-do-html-developer", I was one of the best developers there. I didn't even touch html. That of course was done by another departement in another city.
The point I was making is that it made development WORSE and the system were LESS reliable. Yes, we had a lot of downtime, but not from MY systems. The company was poorly managed, and this let to a very poorly implemented change control system.
The change control was all paper and little software automation. Deployments were not backed up or reversable, and there was very little insight as to what was going on.
I'm sure this company will get eaten alive. Spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a website that doesn't even have online banking!!!
If you don't need a screen, why have one? It just adds weight, size, complexity and cost.
The main reason to keep the suffle is sound quality. It has the best amp of any portable mp3 player.

Man, I worked web development at a Bank that had so many levels of paperwork. The project I worked on was NOT related to handling money, it was just website stuff. Just to change on configuration value on a test (!) machine, I would have to fill out paperwork, get it signed by multiple people, attend a 1 hour meeting, and then pass off to engineering who would actually do the job (sometimes screwing it up)... What a mess.. Getting something on live, production servers was even worse! It would take me a year things that I had done in days in previous companies.
Now I run my own company with lots of production severs.. No paperwork required, and I've automated most stuff.
Haha. Well, I don't shop at freaking best buy, but I bet it depends on the rebate. Some rebates just require a receipt and a upc. Or, haven't you ever seen that type?
Correct. Where does this 47 percent come in, there are no results in the poll that show this 47 number. There is one that says 46 percent disapprove, with 1 percent having no opinion.
What I'd like to know is how many people support wiretaps without warrants on communications in other countries, say like iraq, afganistan, or other terrorist nation? It'd be higher, right?
Then ask they question, why should terrorist who make it to the US be giving more latititude? Why are terrorists home free when they make it here? If you ask me, they should be spying more on the terrorists that are here!
Google has a reason to keep spyware around. They make millions from selling ad space on their search results and affiliates TO the adware companies. Do a search for "smiles", "screensavers" or "Spyware removal" and you'll see lots of ads for adware/spyware!
Google should do less evil by not accepting ads from these companies.
They don't even have to ban/censor it from the search results. They could provide a filter like with adult search. Have an option: a) I'd like search results with out Adware/Spyware b) I'd like to infect my computer from your search results, give me all the adware you got!
Notice how the site has a forum, on google groups. The ADS on those pages are for adware based spyware removers!
Google makes millions if not billions from adware/spyware companies who advertise on google and google affiliates. Lots of standard searches like "screensavers" and "smilies" will bring up adware, and if you search for a spyware removal tool, you'll likely get some even worse spyware than you had before.
If Google wanted to do good (and not be evil) they would BAN spyware, adware and badware from AdSense, and they'd filter them from the listings!
Who's with me?
When I saw the headline, I thought for sure that the article would be about google profiting from Adware/Spyware.
I believe that spyware ads are one of the biggest money makers for Google. Ever do a search for something like "MS Spyware"? You'll see ads for things like "Microsoft antispyware", that really goes to spywarecleaner.com, or some other Adware ridden programs. All my friends who got adware got it off links on Google.
When is Google going to step up and BAN spyware ads?
I'll second this. Throttling is very common. I have experienced it. My friends have experienced it. I'm sure others aren't smart enough to figure it out, or just don't care.
For two months I got DVD shipped the same day they were returned. The third month, it took an extra day for every movie. EVERY movie.
Look at the day you returned movies.. then look at the day the next one ships. The next movie should ship the same day they receive a movie. If it ships the next day a lot, you're being throttled.
Speaking as a freelance java programmer in the US, I think java in particular is on the way out. I hate to think what it'd be like in 3 years when you start. LAMP or MS based apps are more common and growing. Good freelancing jobs can be hard to get into, it's mostly about networking and having the right people trust you for the job. Why not freelance for people now? Why are you moving to the US?
if you put this on a site you trust it is, and other have access to it. One can pass a link that contains a script, which could do all sorts of things. It can load up pages on the site and perform actions, steal cookies and information on the site, or present full pages of information that look like a regular page on the site, which is very usuful in phishing attacks.
In an earlier XSS exploit, I wrote a javascript that could be injected into a citibank site. It would automatically go through the ENTIRE money transfer process, including confirmations. (It was not used on other people of course, and they shut down that site evetually) Other examples I have made included fake articles on NYTimes site and stolen cookies from microsoft.com
XSS does have security implications. It's true that the vulnerable site does not always have important things on it.. however, XSS is always a security problem for a site you trust. The example you gave WAS NOT XSS, and was not a security problem. Show me a real XSS problem on yahoo or any other major site, and I will show you a major exploit.
none of those qualify as XSS. The javascript in the first example must be entered by the USER, it can't be done by a third party. While they should filter this input, it's not a security hole. Allowing yourself to run JS on any site in your own browser is not a security hole (in fact, it's easy to do). It's only a problem when it can be done by someone else.
Google IS part of the problem. They let ads that misrepresent themselves to google users on their site.

sorry, I meant "couldn't"

If you are stiffled, go out!
Haha. Well, I don't shop at freaking best buy, but I bet it depends on the rebate. Some rebates just require a receipt and a upc. Or, haven't you ever seen that type?
That's sort of hard to believe.. especially because you could still file the rebate on it! You must have some dumb clerks where you are.
flamebait. If only I had mod points.

Size matters too.. Unless you believe some girlfriends.

the homepage of msnbc directs to an msn.com site, so, you should be comparing that. http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details? &compare_sites=msn.com&y=t&q=&url=news.bbc.co.uk
Of course, msn has other stuff.. but, you can't use alexa to weed that out.
MSN is ranked #2 behind Yahoo for most web users by alexa.

doesn't work for me. It looks like it was introduced Oct 17th, and fixed by 0ct 20th of 2004. How is that two years?
