  1. New /. section? on Food Bloggers Giving Restaurant Owners Heartburn · · Score: 4, Funny

    Anxiously awaiting food.slashdot.org.

And the incessant whining from RMS about restaurants that don't publish their recipes.

Who visits a list of sites each day anymore? That's the whole point of RSS. Subscribe to lots of stuff, and then skim the headlines for interesting articles, just like a [printed] newspaper.

Actually, iTunes on Mac doesn't use the WebKit either. The music store is all done with QuickTime, which is why iTunes for Windows also installs QuickTime. For more info, see Hyatt's blog-post about this:

  11. Stream directly from your ReplayTV! on Modded XBox The Ultimate Multimedia PC? · · Score: 1

Just wanted to point out that recent builds of XBMC can stream video recorded on your ReplayTV PVR. Pretty slick, and a great way to get a thin-client to play back your Replay recordings on a different television [w/o the expense buying/activating a second RTV].

  12. Re:CASE SOLVED on Sprint Routers Stolen; NYC Internet Outage Ensues · · Score: 5, Interesting

You're not kidding. My employer's voice provider [a CLEC, not Sprint] blamed Verizon techs for "stealing some boards from the CO" when I called to ask about our phone outage today.

VZ, especially in NYC, has a bad reputation for these antics.

  13. I think I was affected! on Sprint Routers Stolen; NYC Internet Outage Ensues · · Score: 1

My employer gets our voice service from a CLEC [not Sprint] over a PRI. Phoe service went out at some point overnight and was out until 12:30ish today.

When I called our CLEC to report the outage, they said that some cards were missing from the CO and that they had to replace and program them.

Whew....this is a great link to send to everyone at work. They always think I'm so full of shit when I blame everyone but myself.

It's pretty much simple Economics. The iPods are selling just fine at their regular prices. These stores don't need to cut the prices to entice people to buy iPods. They're flying off the shelves without any help.

So, why would anyone cut into their profits if they're gonna sell the same number of units at the full price?

  23. Re:Don't Waste Your Vote on Should You Vote? · · Score: 1

The problem with the "Waste Your Vote" debate is that while it may be the only way to send a message that you support a third party, you are indeed wasing your vote.

All states are winner-take-all in the Electoral College, so even if Ralph or Pat got one third of a state's at-large votes, there would still be no Electoral College votes if Bush or Gore got 34%. [And remember, even if Ralph wins MI, he still only gets a handful of Electoral votes].

If you wanna make a difference and not waste your vote, you better get a whole bunch of friends to move to CA, NY, TX, MA, IL, or OH [and a few others]. It's certainly no coincidence that that's where the big campagning happens.

Anyone can campaign their ass off and win VT, but that's only three votes! [OK, only Repulicans can win VT, but that's not the point.]
