I went out to Fry's on Sunday morning, hoping to get one to leapfrog the SP (I have a 1st-gen GBA with barely-readable screen), and they admitted to having a short supply. Then they showed me a sheet of paper where were requiring you to buy it as a bundle (like there weren't already a bunch of GBA games it could already play?) and I didn't want either Spider-Man or the generic EA (boo-hiss) sports title for $169.99 (they had already run out of Urbz, and I didn't really want that either). They mumbled something about a Mario bundle for $159.99, but it wasn't printed on the sheet, so I assumed they were just being rhetorical. I guess I'll have to wait until January. Maybe I'll be able to get it in a cool color or something.
/still not regretting getting a GBC on the release day
How do I turn off that damn magnifying glass icon that takes up like 50 pixels of the menu bar, 2/3 of which is gratutious white space? I didn't use Sherlock, I didn't use Find By Content, and I don't expect that I'll want to use this, either. I installed the 10.4 beta a few months ago and couldn't find any obvious way to turn it off.
The secret is to allow for unlimited d/l and u/l but then create a perl script to monitor netstat -na and kill those connections via iptables which have a high recv q. Otherwise they'll suck down all your upload bandwidth.
Or you could just use the bandwidth limiter in most clients. I have 60K or so total upstream, so I set most of my streams to 5K or 10K and can just forget about them for hours or days at a time. And most of the time I can get new anime fansubs faster via NNTP by watching the appropriate newsgroups anyhow.
Texas? WTF? In 2000, Gore won in only one county there. Brazos county, home of Texas A&M University, and a damn disproportionate conglomeration of college students.
I personally think the pros outweigh the cons, just simply because there are a ton of people that will never even try Mac simply because of the high cost and risk of introduction.
...and because they're too stupid to realize that they don't have to buy a brand new computer. A Blue & White G3 can be had for under $200. I recently got one for just over $100, which is only twice what this scam costs. They run the beta of 10.4 just fine. Certainly they run it much better than PearPC does.
Yep. If you know that a given move is the final move, the optimal action is to defect. When it's not iterated, there is only one move, so of course it's going to be the last move.
I presume there is no way the entrants can know how many moves will be in a given round, or Tit-for-Tat could be slightly be beaten by a modified TfT which always defected in the final round.
If you were to put away $500 into a tax deferred account earning 10% a year, you'll be retiring in 30 years with $1,130,243.96 in your retirement account.
Wow, really? So can you tell me where I can find one of these 10% interest accounts?
At least you don't have to wake up at 6AM on a Saturday morning for Dr. Demento like the folks in Austin do. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw this.
You know, it might be worthwhile to write things like libjpeg in safe languages.
That's a nice thought, but I'm pretty sure that libjpeg wasn't the code in question. This was Microsoft JPEG. Which is just like the real thing, only less secure.
Wait until Linux is mainstream, is installed on the computer of quadrillions of unknowledgeable people, and represent 80% of the market. Then, and only then, it will be the target of numerous hackers and virus writers. And they will have a nice and blind audience of stupid computer users.
Isn't Dorf in the new version of the holiday special? I think the sketch is called "Dorf on Vader". Harvey Korman sure looks funny with those black boots on his knees.
These are the same kids who probably think larger tailpipes, trunk wings, and yellow paint all make cars go faster. They'd be just as confused if you showed them an electric dragster - very quiet, yet so powerful that they have to be put in their own class because fuel-powered dragsters can't even touch them.
It fails to run a lot of popular software right out of the box. Last I checked, it wouldn't install IE6.
Hell, I couldn't even get it to run Minesweeper! I copied over winmine.exe and I get:
fixme:ntdll:NtQueryVolumeInformationFile device info not properly supported on this platform
wine: cannot determine executable type for L"Z:\\ (...path...) \\wimine.exe"

(actually, I make a point of keeping multiple copies of my entire digital photo collection)
Is there anywhere I can invest in tinfoil futures?

Once the Interplanetary Internet gets going, we're all going to be moved to the .earth TLD anyhow.
I'd like to see a .tx TLD for Texas. After all, it used to be its own soverign nation!

YHBT. YHL. HAND.
(Wow, classic trolling. Of the Kibological kind.)

In JPEG and MPEG, the EG means "Experts Group", though the E is usually dropped because of Microsoft's 8.3 legacy of CP/M file names.
Did anyone check for WMD in the nearby area? Or Amelia Earhart?

And people running OS X will still laugh.
Another Blip link
Or even Apple. It would be interesting to see what comes out the rear end if you try to merge Solaris and OS X.
And I've heard that vertical deflection thing (for anamorphic widescreen) was common in Europe for five years before it came to the US.

Huh? You didn't even need to plug into the network for that to happen. And most of the time it was Nutscrape 4's fault anyhow.
