Well, I am sure this won't go far with the moderation, but I am going to try.
The US Government WASTES billions upon billions of dollars every year on pet projects, military, social services (very broad meaning), internal affairs, and much more indeed. This has gotten worse every year, and even though there are no hard facts on this, it is quite obvious.
My question is: What are you going to do to STREAMLINE government operations and prune out the unneccessaries? If this were done quickly, efficiently, and carefully (which is possible), it would definitely bring positive changes overall even if there are a few glitches from the process. Do you have what it takes to get this done?
I know George Bush wants to start setting up oil wells in/near protected areas of Alaska. That is a very bad idea.
We need to promote technology, not the oil companies.
I live in Iowa, and it is amazing that an "Asian gaur, a heavily muscled, humpbacked, ox-like animal native to the bamboo jungles of India and Burma" is being born from a damn cow here somewhere near me.
Next thing you know my neighbor will be birthing dinosaurs out of his iguana.
I am posting this from QNX. Wow,the.exe install was amazingly easy. It doesn't say on the QNX website that the Athlon works, but it sure does.
This is worth the download!
If I remember right, he also got into a major pissing match with another Mac emlulator creator. (I can't remember the name) It worked similar to his SoftMac which uses a software ROM, and at the time, he only had the hardware ROM on a ISA card. He said the hardware was better because it was more legal.
People might as well get used to seeing Mozilla news similar to this for a long time to come. Things are just beginning to really take off.
Even before its done, people are basing their new applications on it (see mozdev.org), and are embedding gecko (and soon more of Mozilla) into existing software.
BTW, there was an ActiveX version of Gecko that ran in IE a while back.
They are leaving MathML, along with numerous other features out of the standard Netscape 6 installation that could be technically important.
It is my guess that these are the things not developed by Netscape themselves. If so, that brings serious doubt just how much Netscape wants to use contributed code in their shipping product.
Without MathML, or anything else they are leaving out, those features simply won't become very popular. They include crap like Internet phone, but not MathML.
I would also imagine this included XSLT, and that is also very important. IE has it, and Netscape 6 should also have it. It is an important technology.
Sure they say in there that they can be downloaded as options later on, but why can't they be in the default installation?
Hopefully they change their minds.
BeOS and Darwin cannot be compared.
BeOS is an entire OS made for multi-media and speed.
Darwin is basically the bottom half of OS X, and not much different than any other BSD.
If you want to compare Darwin to something, compare it to FreeBSD, or one of the others.
BTW, BeOS is getting a new network stack that is comparable in speed as the BSDs, and also full OpenGL support. The filesystem is already multi-user capable, and works like a database.
Check out OpenTracker.org for info on Be's open-source efforts. I bet Be would open up even more code if there was some serious interest in expanding the OS beyond what it is today, possibly into the server market.
I seen a job listing on Be.com for someone to run a Server Solutions dept. at Be. I am sure they would be interested in having the experience of the Open Source community help them out on such an idea, I hope.
Gee, I wanna buy come stock in this company. They have an excellent business plan it seems, and the technology to back it up.
I only wish my university had a system as capable as Campus Pipline's, it would make my life as a student quite a bit easier compared to the peice of crap system they have now. Online registration is like using a 9600bps modem to view Slashdot.
I certainly would not mind the ads, and if the ads are that targeted, I might actually be interested in them, and Campus Pipeline makes a ton.
Universitys are not making any ad revenue off of their systems now, but they could have something much better for free, even if it does have ads.
Campus Pipeline is one of the best ideas I have seen in a while. Maybe I will contact a sysadmin at my school about it...
Did you notice how in that whole tailer, nobody was even fragged in those screenshots? For real, go look at it again. And these guys are supposed to be pros in a documentary?
I know that PNGs don't work in the majority of browses, but would they have the same problem? I bet they would. Also there would be alpha-channel problems. Does anyone know more about this?
I go to college. I take 12 hours. I have a tech job, and I work 25 hours a week. I make great money.
If you are not lazy, you can find a tech job out there to work while you are in collge. Sure, you might not graduate in 4 years, but you will be making good money in the process, depending on who you work for.
Don't go for school-sponsored internships. This is something you do on your own.
If the XBox is going to have a standard hardware specification, based on basically PC components, there is the possibility that there will be "XBox Compatible" PCs.
If I were a PC manufactorer, I would be talking to MS about this idea soon. It would definitely be a plus for that model of PC.
On the other hand, it is simple to just have a PC port of that same XBOx game. Hell, they could go on the same DVD together.
Let's just hope the XBox does not crash just as soon as someone is on the last level, about ready to beat the game. That person might have some hardware trouble (smashed XBox) along with that crashed game, haha.
On the other hand, Caldera OpenLinux's (Lizard) installer is about the easiest OS install I have ever done. It is close to BeOS in ease of installation.
This article has really suprised me. Kudos to BeNews for doing it.

;-) Good one.

Please see the discussion here. It's under $300. Thank you Santa.
All the recent Bezilla builds have been green in tinderbox. That means it is compiling without errors. So... I think they have a workaround.

What is the deal with this new web server Red Hat is working on? It is supposed to be part of the kernel.
BTW, I have ran Caldera 2.4 Kernel Preview, and it rocks. It has a lot of what RH 7 has, plus KDE2...
In a few months, there is really going to be some nice Linux distros that are as valid as Windows for the desktop.

I wonder if Amazon.com is one of the bidders? If not, they should be. They deserve it.
Divx ;-) movies...

It is not 100%. The agreement is that AOL uses IE in exchange for an AOL icon on the Windows desktop, or something like that.
Maybe AOL will not want to give that up, and they will keep using IE.

I wonder how this car would do in a crash test. Can you say "BOOM"? haha.
Here is a better link.
BeOS is nothing close to being UNIX.
What is the FreeBSD to Darwin connection all about?
When I think of a future computer, I think of a supercomputer in a Palm. The unit would also be a phone, gameboy, MP3 player, and whatever.
The unit would also have a bunch of plug-ins for the more advanced PC functions.
It would basically be a supercomputer with massive storage and functionality, in your pocket.
That's what I want...
