Here's a fun way to spread the word about the Patriot Act and its impact on our freedoms. Check out these propaganda posters updated to comment on the war on terrorism.
I found Physics for the Rest of Us to fill this role nicely. I wanted some more in-depth info about major physics topics but didn't want to have to go back to college and get a physics/math degree. It also provides nice real-world examples of physical properties resulting from the underlying theory.
This suggestion is illegal and unethical. But, more importantly, it leads to a false sense of security.
If a worm such as code red infects a box, the box is compromised. Remote users can reconfigure various portions of the box or use the root.exe exploit to basically do whatever they want.
Patching the box to prevent further infection would be nice but it would be impossible to undo all the possible damage caused by remote root access to the system. The only way to truly clean a box infected with code red is to power off and reinstall the OS.
I've gone from being a developer to the development manager to the CTO and back to being a developer. My company has always been happy to keep me on in any position since I generate revenue for them and keep things running.
If you're providing value to a company (i.e., revenue or training or whatever), then they're not going to let you go.
It's possible that you're company's management is so blinded by spite that they really would fire you. If that's the case, you're better off leaving since they're likely to tank soon enough making decisions based on spite rather that good business sense.
Probably some camper with a railgun.
There's also the excellent collection of dysfunctional Family Circus reviews.
Yeah, that'll stimulate innovation.

Bookpool is even cheaper at $21.50 although the book is currently out of stock.
