Right, and we are also on the cusp of global socio-economic collapse. The question is: Will we make it all irrelevant before we blow ourselves up??? Then again, maybe I will order pizza and watch some more of Ergo Proxy and not worry about such fatalistic possibilities. I'm going back to sleep now. Wake me up when the philospher king has his grand immaculation.

The "State's Enforcers" are scared shitless and shooting everything that moves. Goods and services have not deteriorated to the point where civil unrest is an overriding concern. When this happens the 3% that can actually effect change will come out of the woodwork and kick the hineys and their sycophants. The State has been buying up as much ammo as they can, but everybody knows that the People have been doing the same. When this powder keg goes off, they will be able to see it on Saturn...

I crossed the N. Atlantic in 2001 on my 12m sloop that I refitted from a salvage. The most important equipment for me was: GPS/chartplotter/depth sounder (and spares!!!) I did my crossing with a handheld gps, paper charts, and a generic fishfinder that was cheap and worked flawlessly. Auto-pilot with magnetic and wind steering (don't skimp here.) HF Radio ICOM w/ antenna tuner (used mine daily for WX) Radar I put in a good quality car stereo and used the doggie out of it. Cheap and easily replaced. never had to... Recording barometer (essential!!!) Wind generator Inverter/charger sat comms if you can afford it. Also, for a circumnavigation, consider that computer hard drives tend to fail due to gyroscopic stresses on the bearings, so either get a couple of spares or if you have the dosh, then use ssds.
