Lars said that being able to download MP3s off of the internet enables you to get exactly the CD.... well, I'm afraid to tell them this, but they're mistaken... anyone who knows anything about how MP3 works will tell you it's NOT perfect, by nature. Even if you get the bitrate up to 320, it's still not the same bit by bit.... very technically it's not illegal copying because it's not the same as the original CD.... of course one could say the same thing of photocopying books, which is also illegal... the problem, is just WHERE to draw the line....
Well, I have used DivX;-) extensively and found that it produced pretty good results on some DVDs... (Such as Pink Floyd's The Wall) While other films such as Natural Born Killers didn't like the codec no matter what bitrate I threw at it. (Maybe due to all the black and white in the film?) But anyways, I still think that DivX would be pimpin in linux;) I mean, I'd still rather watch one, than swap about 7 or 8 cds that have unencrypted.VOB files on em (a major payne) -MoOsEb0y
They're good for a couple of things.... a. Bathroom reading material until I put a hacked i-opener in there b. Firestarters... I mean, come on lighter fluid isn't always the best...;) -MoOsEb0y
Ahh, this is entirely true, but what caused me to switch to alternate audio formats is the fact that most people don't know/care what is encoding their MP3s, and most people don't use fraunhofer or lame (which to me are the 2 best sounding MP3 encoders). Thus, most of the files floating around on the net sound like crap. (Or at the very least have very audible distortion that bugs me). -MoOsEb0y
Not in particular. I shoutcasted a local radio station on my firewall box to use up spare cpu cycles, and I was able to pull 64kbps/32000hz/stereo just fine on its 233 mhz processor.
Since it's kinda pointless to use GNUtella without servers.... check This website out... it also has updated versions that were previously unreleased (up to 0.50c now)
This "protection" still doesn't prevent someone handy with notepad from simply reading it and retyping it someplace else, thus making it non-protected. This is what I plan to do once I can actually *download* the stupid thing, so I can simply keep a copy and not have to deal with this stupid protection crap.
They're suing over the my.mp3.com site which lets you "beam" your CDs to them and listen to them online... there was an article not three days ago about this. because the theory that you can just borrow someone's CD beam it and return it is so easily practiced, THAT is why the RIAA sued them.
Does this use Catalase to change from co2 to the acid? because if it does, that can be obtained from the liver of cattle VERY easily and for cheap. (Only a few weeks in bio, our class did a few experiments with this.. turns out it reacts with hydrogen peroxide much like baking soda producing oxygen and water)
I honestly don't like it. But the way I see things, there's no way it's gonna be stopped, and you honestly can't change the way a person thinks. It's just one of those few things you can't take from a person.
That's exactly what the RIAA said about audio CDs. Now go look at the MP3/VQF/AAC/WMA/Whatever Scene I mean, just give a person the name of a song and within 10 minutes they have it... In 10 years, video will be just the same.
Just how messed up the whole industry has become they'll sue anyone over anything just to make a few dollars. Look at how high they jack up the prices. Do they honestly expect people to pay 25 bucks a DVD, when they could rent it for a couple and then use DeCSS to copy it to the hard drive, where it can be compressed to whatever format you're feeling lucky with?
Will they make a mod-chip for it?
you stole my idea!! I'm gonna get my MPAA and RIAA lawyers and hunt you down like a fox!!! I want my free nation!! ;)
