listen, complain as much as you like, but it doesn't change the fact that you would get yourself casted in starwars, even for a brief cameo, if you had the power.
so use the force or something. i never saw the movies.
so somebody writes a small page explaining why they like a certain WM over another, some text editor over the other, and so forth, and it gets posted to slashdot?
If I write a paragraph or two saying why Captain Crunch is my favorite cereal, should I submit it? because I can.
yeah, you could give your money to these foundations and projects, but you don't know where it's going to go. if it will get to the programmers who really need it or not. so just to be safe, you can your money to me.
Just curious: about fight club. I loved the movie and the book, but I couldn't say which was better because I saw the movie first, and while reading the book I couldn't do much but envision the scenes in the movie. Did you read the book first?
I would like to see how the book is percieved without the movie influencing it.
I'm not sure about you, but every philosophy student I know has very little independent thought. They basically just spout quotes of whoever they liked reading. Philosophy classes do not inspire independent thought.
Purdue researchers have come up with a new way to cool chips, in about 2 years.
I don't know what kind of chips these researchers are using, but the kind I use build up heat a lot faster, and thus need to be cooled constantly, not just every two years.
I'm not a big fan of MST3k. I would really like it except for those idiots at the bottom of the screen and make fun of the movie. It really gets on my nerves.
pi day is 3/14 or 3.14; which is already a pi approximation.
I say we celebrate piday on April/(1/(1-1/3+1/5-1/7+...))th. Which would be a true pi day.
actually, March 14159265353...th is just as 'practical'
FYI, the infinite series (pi = 4(1/(1-1/3+1/5-1/7+...)) was discovered by Leibniz and was the first infite series representing pi found. hurray for leibniz)

Just wanted to throw in my favorite independent TurnBased company Matrix Games.
So far they released a rewrite of Steel Panthers, with update features, etc. The game is high quality.

Do you also disapprove of writers who write novels and plays instead of instructions for stereos? Or shake your head at a painter who paints canvases instead of houses?
This is a good thing, despite how practical it is. Any (new/innovative) development in the CS field is good, despite its applicability.
Let those who love the field and have passion do what they want, practical or not. The corporate world will supply 'practical' uses.
Just my thoughts.

Can someone who is more knowledgable give me a couple answers?
Generally, how mature is a compiler when it reaches self compiling capabilities? young? is it a main goal of the project?
also how does this compiler compare to the average lifeline of a compiler? is it on track, slow in development, etc.
thanks.
imo, you got what you deserve for believing lucas had any artistic integrity left (or in the first place).

"Besides, if it looks and acts (for the most part) like your Debian GNU/Linux system, the entry bar is very low and people are more likely to try it."
but if it looks and acts just like Debian, what's the point in using it over Debian?
or you could just go with the Gamecube because it's so damned cute.
and those games are just adorable!

i'm going to be the mobius stripper.

no middle man.
i didn't say that religions were illogical. at least I didn't mean to.
what I meant to say was something more along the lines of: stop telling me what I should do, you crazy zealots. that goes for zealots of all kind.
because that would be logical, and there's enough religious people out there to stop logic from entering our lives.
I am spending time with my loved ones. My athlon 700, my athlon 500, my p166, and my ultrasparc10.
They really enjoyed the new switch I bought them for xmas.
Merry christmas, boys. now get back to work.
I wish I had a modstatus. O.o
+3, funny!

"When Los Alamos Scientists Make Toys"
:D
ok. Now I won't be so bashful about submitting:
"Humans reported to breathe oxygen"
"Cats enjoy strings"
"x86 is the devil"
Off topic? maybe.

is this what you're looking for?

lame jokes brought to you by:
I've been backing up my data for the last 4 years. I mean literally, I'm not done yet.
I've been looking at the raw data and writing down the 1's and 0's in the correct order in notebooks.
it's long, painful, and expensive; but... but... well I know I started doing it for a reason...
I'm not a big fan of MST3k. I would really like it except for those idiots at the bottom of the screen and make fun of the movie. It really gets on my nerves.
I find it hilarious that there is an actual Council on Tall Buildings.
Once again, I'm finding life more and more like a monty python skit.

None of these companies particularly cares about the "innovation" of course.
Ebay didn't start their service because they wanted to connect mankind, or advance technology, or any REAL reason for innovations.
They did it because of money.
Unfortunetly, this is one of the many negatives of capitalism. And even more unfortunetly, capitalism is the best we have.
