" I read about that! It looked very interesting!
Supposedly you're supposed to be able to hook up all rooms in your house with one machine, for almost no money at all! Oh, yeah and it's a gateway/router/firewall too! Pretty neat thought! I read it on The Register [theregister.co.uk] last night:)"
Every time I look at something like this on slashot I really think of why it's necessary. I like the versatility of having individual divices to meet individual needs.
"Shit, I just tried to post a witty reparte in Japanese and the FUCKING lameness filter prevented me; said I'm using too many caps. (Obviously Slashdot is fucking USELESS when it comes to UNICODE. Not that I'm surprised, knowing the quality of the so-called programming talent behind this site.)"
or maybe you lie about your ability to actually speak Japanese let alone write it? Just a thought
"I'm not commenting on JonKatz's articles until we get a valid explanation of the "infamous" email from Kabul [slashdot.org]. I no longer trust Katz's opinions until he can prove to us that he wasn't pulling that article out of his rear."
Who really gives a shit. The Afghans have *the* worst government you can possibly have. I don't really give a damn.
Furthermore It dosn't matter. Honestly do you really think that there are many people in Afghanistan proper that actually in any way, shape, or form have the kind of ubiquituous internet access that we have. Most likely all you get is the opinions of the elite anyway.
Let me guess you are some armchair critic who acts like an idiot.
And yes this is largely to get off steam after reading shit from you idiots who like to bash him because he isn't a loser like you. You who most likely aren't good for anything more than being a code monkey.
"'d suggest no one replying to his articles until he has proven that he just isn't just producing garbage he is making up (or until he admits that some 1337 H4X0R sent him and email and he thought it was real)."
Let me get this straight. Are you actually saying you want to endanger someone's life under a theocracy or a group of feuding warlords where revenge killing is the order of the day?
Here's a hint genius maybe Katz was being a *professional* (you know when you smile and say "You want freis with that" at you job. Kind of like that except with more intelligence).
Personally I think that payment schemes of this kind would ultimately kill the web and make it impossible to have any development in any serious fashion. I would prefer paying a flat rate and have all the content I can eat for a specific site but to pay indescrimately for something say like slashdot which has variable use or something say like an entertainment site is rediculous.
"I've got a IBM 20G and it's given me no end of problems. Until recently I was unemployed and try using Linux with a broken HDD (so I used Windows 98, which is far quicker at getting back on its feet). "
interesting I have heard that windows will operate with things like this and cruddy error prone ram? Is this an advantage? Why is Linux picky in this regard then?

Is there really some kind of way to expect that the net will forever remain free as we know it?
"Objective-C is uglier than Brainf$ck. Is there any reason why they chose Objective-C over C++? "
Reseume building?
Did you know that there is a nice little guide that discusses object oriented programming in straight C? really cool.

"Why would a Mac user be fanatical about OS/2? "

With events like these wanting to revise the works of others is what scholarship outside of scientific fields does.
Just because the Renisance ended hundreds of years ago or President Reagan made a speach dosn't mean that it's impossible to talk about it.

He's protecting someone's life.
Not get a fucking clue.
"You have no sense of humor, do you?"
not recently with all this anti-intellectualism against the writer in question
Man that's gotta hurt your pride.
"Its a typical article...the most obvious thought a year late. "
the most typical argument without any reasoned analysis. but you understand right?

"Tomorrow Linux will conquer the world, starting a thousand year rule of a proper operating system, administered by uber-users."
how does an operating system do that?
That such a well respected government can further the cause of linux.
"HURD -- a testament to the never-give-up and never-think-things-through spirit of GNU."
