I think that the article may be close to the truth, at least, as far as it relates to the.com's and such out there.
however, I think that the internet is still vastly growing, its just going to go in a different direction now.. I think that direction will be integrating our every day appliances in our household to talk to the various nifty things out there.. (of course then we'll have to put up with ovens that talk about the latest betty crocker recipe, and microwaves that talk about the new hot pocket flavor)
but I don't think people really know what the P4 is for. It's not for the average joe consumer, its for multimedia apps, which it is specifically designed for.
The PIII is still going to be available and is still going to be the money maker. The P4 is just another solution to the _very_ much growing field of the multimedia world. It can barely be considered the same chipset as the PIII.
Of course, people always gobble up FUD more then they do reason.
Let's look at this logically. Eventually, someone who is elected to an important position is going to be very pro-freedom-of-information.
Sorry, but I disagree. If you look at the US Gov't system of 'leadership' its based upon witholding information.
the only people that get elected are those that have enough:
#1 - Money
#2 - 'Political' influence
You earn more money by witholding information then you do by giving it out, and its the same way with politics. Politicians aren't really concerned with how information is presented, but more with how they can use it to their gain.
"You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time"
--not sure who said this.. but it wasn't me.
Anyways, I for one am pleased with open source and its ideals. It's a pity that people would rather moan about something and compare it to something completly unrelated then actually contribute to something. Ah well, human nature.
I think its a safe thing to say that I would not have.. researched Discordiasm(read: not even known it existed) without the internet. I think the reason why a lot of the esoteric relegions were downloaded a lot is because they weren't readily available in libraries, go ahead and TRY to find _Princpia Discordia: Or, How I Found Goddess and What I Did to Her When I Found Her_ in a library.
I also think the internet is a favorite for the irrepresable Illuminatus(which may or may not be closely tied to Discordiasm)
As for Ringism, very few know what that is, and even less where to find it;)
(hint: its in one of my email sig's)
In short, I think a lot of the techie community comes up with thier own belief method. I'm curious as to how many Christians we have in the tech field, I made the mistake once of assuming that there weren't to many.. and made a flip remark.. the next thing I knew, I had about 5 megs of packets comeing at me.
While not being a high school drop out, I am a college drop out. Why? I got the job I was going to college for. While my college buddies are learning how to make flow charts that they'll never use(i have YET to see one of the many coders im surronded by use a flow chart or pseudo code in a working enviroment(unless they are in a resturant and a flash hits them)). Sadly, while one of my friends is learning the wonderful uses of flow charts, I'm learning why you shouldn't use a raid-5 for highly updated sql servers. My friends of computer science have yet to figure out what raid-5 is, and, sad to say, I do not believe its on their curriculm.
I may not be able to explain to you Turing's Halting Theorem,(yet) but that doesn't mean that I don't deserve the job I have.
Your whole basis is that College Graduates do a better job then 'high school dropouts'. Give me cases and back up your claim, otherwise do not use it as a factual statment.
As for well rounded, would you care to engage in a discussion of the socratic method and how it can relate to dealing with upper managment, given that you don't over-use it? Or Perhaps you'd rather engage in the parrallism of David Zindell's writings and Malaclypse the Youngers?
Finally, in closing, I'd like to add that im happy where I'm at, I'm having more fun and enjoying life more where I am then where I would be in college.
Well, you have to admit.. the US gov't is sneaky. This way they can tell people "well, we gave 5[or more] universities the chance to look at it and they decided not to"
I wonder how long it will be before they actually find someone to look at the flesh-eater, and what kinda effigy it will be.
whats next, xerox machines that won't copy certain publications if they have a special barcode copyright?
Pencils that require a user to scan publications with the same barcode method above or else the user is shocked?
Monitors that won't display certain information if it thinks it came from an invalid copywright holder?
What would happen if you gave a more complex program like this the components of human genes and let it run under different conditions?
Perhaps eventually with the help of that program, we human beings don't need to think of how to make AI, it will do it for us.
Now we just need to tinker with the program to do that.
Perhaps all of us slash dot readers should put a link up on our own webpages, how can they go after everyone?
I wonder what would happen if we linked it in our posts to slashdot? who would be held accountable, slashdot or the author?
How do they really expect to stop people from finding the src for DeCSS given the fact that you can get links, src, and all sorts of other fun stuff from other avenues? (ftp, icq, irc,.. etc)
perhaps r2d2 isn't going to be a major character?
Maybe just a quick 2 second flash?
who knows.. i think before everyone whines about it they should see it.
It follows the same lines of when large coperations who make computers buy a different brand of computer. Even though it _might_ cost more money, they can write it off as assets, rather then just a 'transfer of funds' or what-have-you. Stupid Bean counters and their wierd ways.

forget those COMMON chipsets.. i'll be impressed when they come out with dual MIPS(with arc!) support.
*goes back to kicking the big ass paper weight at his house*
yippy skippy, now we can have cisco linux-distro' flame wars!
"MY cisco runs redhat!"
"oh yeah? my cisco runs slackware!"
"hah! amateurs! mine runs turbo!"
