    WHat did it disable? The telephone system still worked. I could make calls that normally had to travel through an NY switch. Telephone switches will route around badness like that, and they always have.

    What the FUCK are you fucking smoking? for $20/mo, I probably couldnt get all the standard services I get on my cell phone on my home phone line.

    $15 Line Charge
    $1 Touch Tone (I believe)
    $4 taxes
    $5/mo Caller ID
    $3/mo call waiting
    etc, etc. If you want free long distance, it's gonna be $20 more on top of that, and then only to ATT customers.

    For $35/mo, I get 450 anytime, 1000n/w (start at 8PM), call waiting, 3 way calling, caller ID, free LD to the US from my home calling area. You're not going to get unlimited, even from a land line for $20.

    Launching VERY soon, a new mMode service will allow you to locate your friends using the GSM e911 service (Enhanced Observed Time Difference). You can be "invisible", but thats I'll I know about it. TDMA customers are out of luck.

    Cell phones operate at a MAXIMUM of 600mW. Sure, old bag phones use 3W, but thats only when they need all 3W.

    IF you get a fast busy, its the network saying it doesnt have any open voice channels, too congested. Only happens in areas where there's heavy usage.
    Every tower only has so many channels available, or if it's CDMA, the ability to support only so many calls. If it runs out, it just tells your phone "No go", and your phone generates a fast busy.

    Well, yes, and no. 1900MHz is just as good as 800 if they have it set up right, that is, smaller cells.
    AT&T uses 800MHz TDMA in most markets, 1900MHz GSM and TDMA in others. Verizon uses 800MHz CDMA in some markets.

    PCS uses 1900MHz. Traditional cellular uses 800MHz, which penetrates buildings slightly better.

    Ok, so that means instead of just buying the game, I have to drag my parents (who don't care anyway) out of the house, have them walk in the store, show ID, and then purchase it for me instead of simply going in, swiping my Visa, and leaving.

    And some that get into the EtOH by the time they're 15 actually know how to drink responsibly once they can legally. Think about it from both angles. All this law will do is punish kids that buy the games and, to the horror of moms and psychiatrists everywhere, lead a normal life.
