People want to install Google Earth. They DO NOT want to install Google Updater
they need the updater.
One reason: not updated apps one of the reasons why malware work: people do not install security updates unless forced to do so. (And dont tell me that a app like Google Earth cannot have securitiy issues)
MS learned this the hard way when they had Auto Updates disabled by default.
OR, be forthright enough to tell users AT THE TIME OF THE INSTALLATION that they're agreeing to install an app that they have no control over, and one that keeps coming back even if you get rid of it?
Installation was a simple drag & drop so no chance to ask the user there.
The waterfall method is still the best development model. Uou have to analyze, then plan, then code, then test, then maintain. The steps need to be in order and you can't skip any of them.
Nope
You have to "test" (review) the Analysis too. If you start the test-Process after the coding is done, you are (way) to late.
Any shells that default to black on white, I switch immediately. It's not so bad in a web browser, but there's something about a shell and typing in it that hurts my eyes. It could be that I'm concentrating that much more on the text on the screen, since it's usually fast data. Like, tail logs on a busy server, or run top with a refresh of 1 or 0. I catch details that other people don't even notice on their machines. For me, its exactly the opposite. I can't read white on black.
If a website forces me to read that, I usually copy/paste the text into an editor and read it there (black on white)
Then you're in such a minority that you probably don't make a difference to this prediction. I doubt that my posted criterias are not mass marked relevant: -) cheap -) plays imported Disks
At least here in Europe, the feautre "code-free" is (or more exactly: was) an importand feature a few years ago.

Well.. Safari may pass the original ACID2, but it fails the ACID2 (no Data) test from http://hixie.ch/tests/evil/acid/002-no-data/#top In fact, it always downloads a file "data006" when openig this page.
> So Vista has a lot of a 'fud' and market myth, but the people that are truly using it, wouldn't switch back to XP and definately wouldn't switch to OS X because of any shortcomings in Vista unless they buy into the FUD/Myths...
Well, I got Vista from my university back in March.
WoW was half as fast as on XP Sam'n'Max Season 1 sometimes dropped to I went back to XP, and have now ordered my iMac.
No, it said "currently available DirectX 10 hardware will not support the upcoming DirectX 10.1"
And that can hardly surprise anyone.
DirectX9b hardware didnt support DirectX9c. There is no reason to believe that e.g. a DX 10.1 Hardware will support DX 10.2 (or whatever it will be called then), but i'd bet that some will complain then, too.
And I'm not having any luck finding anywhere at tells me what version of the plugin (ActiveX Control?) I'm currently running, so now I have to walk to each and every machine in the domain and install the latest manually.
> I'd have to say that Vista is the greatest gift MS could have possibly given to Linux, BSD, and the Mac
For me thats definitely true!
I use(ed) Windows since 3.0 and pretty much every Beta i could get. Even though I got a (almost) free Vista Business from my University, I (temporarily) went back to XP. It wasn't worth it.
I'm now seriously considering buying a Mac as next PC and use Windows only in VMWare if I have to. (most likely when Leopard is released)
> I've had to service printers where people had used non-OEM ink and it can get ugly, at best just the printhead clogs up and needs to be replaced, at other times ink is just everywhere and inkjet ink stains everything.
Yes, but for my Epson R200, the printer costs as much as 1,5 sets of original Ink. for that price i can get ~5-6 3rd Party ink.
That means: even if my Printer dies after ~2-3 cheap ink sets, the price difference allows me to just buy a new printer. (and the quality is just the same)

Apps are upgraded silently, with no notification.
The google updater allways asked me if i want to install an update.
And yes: i like it too.
Or even better, how about a pocket-sized Mac Micro? That would be a shocker!
that on is called iPhone (or iPod touch)

When was the last time you heard someone say, "Sega is way better than Nintendo!" or "Nu-uh, Sega beats the pants off Nintendo!"
They just replaced it with "Sony" and "Microsoft"

I'll consider BlueRay, when cheap, code-free players are available.

LoL
And just for the fun of it, call it "Mozilla Suite"
or try the Acid2 (no Data) Test from http://hixie.ch/tests/evil/acid/002-no-data/ that will fail as well.

Firefox 3 Beta passes this test.

How can this be surprising?
You have 10.0 hardware and want it to support 10.1?
Please stop posting such nonsense, or would you cry foul if your SSE3 CPU doesnt support SSE4 when its available?
I dont see any shortage here in Austria. Pretty much everyone has all 3 consoles available.
Maybe they just allocated to many to Europe?
> The uninformed user knows Cisco as "the network company that the Internet is connected with."
s /ss_cisco.JPG for details, or google for "Simpsons Cisco" if this Picture disappears.
Probably more for their appearance in a Simpsons episode... see http://www.simpsons-trivia.net/images/screen_shot
see here: http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/
And what if the Image is not on a flash memory, but on a ROM? (unlikely, but still possible)

Dont be so sure about this!
I've read an article (cant remember where) that said that some VM apps have security issues to, allowing malware in the client to infect the host.

It is not allowed to limit the Home edition to phyiscal machines. (at least in Germany, probably everywhere in the EU)
Here in Austria, Students can get Office 2007 Enterprise for 8 Euros, so thats not really special.
Similar prices are available for several other products.
according to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37132 1 (copy/paste link, BigZilla doesnt like /. links), this bug is already fixed in 2.0.0.2 and 1.5.0.10.
