    about 2 years ago, i had to use a Solaris server at work, and it was only accessible though telnet... no SSH :(
    (but it was not accessible from the internet, just intranet)

    true, but why would you buy vista ultimate for 400, when Vista business is available for ~150 (EUR) which allows virtualisation? (didnt look up the US prices)

    I've seen some PDFs (generated with LaTeX using the microtype package) that looked significantly different on several printers. Some just decided to ignore whole paragraphs, others just decided to print several words in bold. They all looked fine on the Monitor, but not printed

    So to sum up: No, PDFs do not look identically everywhere.

    (disabling microtype or using PCL instead of PostScript to print fixed those issues)

    MikTeX doesnt work with Vista (yet).

    A simple google ad doesnt do any harm. (or is there something I'm missing?)

    Its obvious that MS wants this to happen. (since it promotes IE7)

    Pretty much every DVD Player sold here in Austria is "Region Free" (and clearly marketed as such). So thats nothing new.

    The HDTV's I have seen in shops all had a miserable picture quality. (much lower than my good old CRT TV)
    Very bad colors, tons of artifacts,...

    From my point of view HDTV is a step down. (until true digital HD broadcasts are available)

    Try latexdiff. The visual markup works quite well.


    i'm currently writing my theses and tried latexdiff.

    unfortunately the resulting .tex files just wont compile without manually editing them. its really annoying, but the bugs seems to be limited to \section's and other headers.

    Could someone explain, why i have a right to force an other company to give me a higher ranking than an other site?

    and why should google be forced to not manually edit their pagerank?

    Seriously, open up a Word document that you've worked on and modified several times. Select the whole document, copy it, paste it into a new document, and save it. The documents should largely be identical (you might've missed headers and footers or page margins). Now compare the fize sizes. The old document might be several megabytes. The new one is probably a few hundred K.


    this sounds like you have "QuickSave" (ot whatever its called in english) enabled. (this appends all Changed to the file)

    i disagree: you need Graphics that scale well on webpages (SVGs) instead of plain old PNGs that wont scale (as good)

    this may not matter to you, but VB6 isnt supported by MS anymore. (or will be soon?)

    i'm doing my work now with C# (2005 Edition) and most likely will never go back to VB5/6

    if that is is the same iBook as i have (800 MHz G4, 640 MB RAM and a 9200) than yes its playable, but not enjoyable... 5-10fps with everything turned off and standing in an empty place is not really "just fine"
