It's not that they don't want companies to profit from their code -- after all, that's what distros do. The real reason I GPL my code is because I don't want it to be used by someone who will just take it and close up the source after they modify it -- which is the biggest flaw of the BSD-style licenses in my opinion.
This may shock you, but XFree86 4 already HAS this.
If you're running XF86 4, look in/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers. Tell me what you see in there - yep, a.o file for each card. And you know what? Hardware vendors can even distribute binary-only modules! You know, like NVidia is doing with their drivers.
Quite amazing, huh?
So what's so bad about X again? If you tell me it uses too much memory, don't believe what top tells you - that includes pixmaps in use by apps as well as as the memory on your video card (which may be counted more than once).
Is it that X is slow because everything is done using a network connection? Think again, because if you're running it locally, it does everything nice and speedy through shared memory and cool fast stuff like that (I don't have the exact details).
The moral of the story: do some research before you bash something.
Well, ya see - the security worms wouldn't have to be anything special. Because if there's a r00table hole, then they should be able to exploit it and get in anyway - and if not, then there's no problem anyway. So it would work pretty well.
Say what you want, but the fact is - if you hit someone in the rear, it's your fault, unless their brake lights are out, in which case you may get off. Otherwise, you were following too close/going too fast - and you're the one responsible.
The person in front can't be expected to anticipate every stupid person driving behind them, just those in front.

If a being is extremely intelligent, one would think it would learn very quickly - i.e. have a very gentle learning curve.
That is, if by steep and gentle learning curves that a person with a steep learning curve is very difficult to teach and one with a gentle curve is very easy to teach.
What about that propaganda from Pres. Cartwright saying that the Campus PD would have to return their M16s no matter what the cost and that it was a really dumb move?
The KSU cops ARE real cops. Accredited and everything. They're just as legit as the Kent cops, and do about as much (i.e. sit around eating donuts and pulling people over).
What's really funny is that about two weeks ago there was a big story in the Stater about how the campus police were getting M-16s (non-automatic, but even so ppl went crazy over it).
President Cartwright has made them get rid of them, but even so it's pretty funny how bad KSU's PR can be - busting a Starcraft clan? I knew there were some pretty stupid ppl here, but this takes the cake!
Apt doesn't open any ports on your machine when it is downloading stuff, and it just downloads from FTP or HTTP sites, checks package md5sums with the listings, and if it doesn't match, it will not install.
And if you're REALLY paranoid, you can specify the -d option when installing, and it will only download the files, so you can check to make sure there's nothing bad.
Well, that's possibly because YOU'RE USING THE QT WINDOWS THEME!!!!
Sorry to be so emphatic, but you should do a little better research.
QT has built in Mac-like, Motif-like, GTK-like, SGI-like, and BeOS-like themes. You can also make your own, and with KDE2 you can use GTK pixmap themes.
Or you could just wait a little while and get it out of the main Debian archive - make sure you're using unstable, and not woody (woody is now testing).
Whoa - that's stunningly appropriate considering the Star Trek (original series) that was just on SciFi - it's the one where there are two planets, Eminiar and Vendikar, who wage war through computer simulations, and the 'casualties' are cleanly disposed of in disintegration chambers...

Shows you're not up to speed on current grammar...
'their' is now considered to be an appropriate singular gender-neutral pronoun.
And you know what that means...
Chances are EXTREMELY good that there will be a Linux version!
Lemme see...
Heretic 2: Loki ports it to Linux
Soldier of Fortune: ditto
And since Jedi Outcast will be using the Q3A engine, it should be a snap to port.

Both wrong - 'sic' is latin for 'thus' or 'in this way'. As in, this is how it was originally.
A GeForce2 MX 32MB is only $50 on pricewatch.

The book is The Screwtape Letters, not The Scarlet Letter (which is by Nathaniel Hawthorne).
use mmv. it rules.

you can do all sorts of cool things - great for renaming mp3s from napster.

I recently heard the following from a friend of a friend of one of the national guard ppl who was there at the shooting:
the National Guardsmen did NOT fire first.
Someone in the crowd had a pistol and was shooting at the soldiers.
What would YOU have done?

You don't live in the US, do you?
I agree it's dumb, but stores like to be able to show how "low" their prices are.

So? This "Space War" is just as much science fiction as Star Trek - so it's fair game. :)

If the Bravens win, that's just plain WRONG, after Baltimore stole our Browns and we got the worst team in the NFL.
;)
If Baltimore wins, Modell better watch his back...
Me too - I don't need any groupware type stuff, but as long as it can do palm (well, visor) sync, that's good for me. KMail is fine aside from that.
