    Hey... from what I've heard from conspiracy theorists "Lucent" stands for "Lucifer Enterprises" - i.e. they're a bunch of devil worshipers :).

    But iBiblio really DOES mean something - 'Biblio' as in 'book', in other words "online library" (which it pretty much is).

    This doesn't mean that there aren't programmers who happen to work in perl. Don't make that assumption - it's dangerous.

    It certainly does take discipline to code readable, maintainable perl, but it is definitely possible.

    And there's also the fact that LinuxPPC is IMPOSSIBLE to set up on an iMac so that it runs decently!

    My roommate at college has an iMac DV SE. I've been a full-time Linux user for 2 years, and he's just starting, but neither of us have been able to get it running with USB storage support and decent video, and we've been trying since September.

    Until they get a better install, it's pointless, because it JUST PLAIN DOESN'T WORK!

    Compared to installing LinuxPPC, setting up Debian is a walk in the park. (I'm not saying that Debian is terribly tough - it's the only thing I'll use :).

    Nigger does NOT mean 'ignorant person', it (literally) means 'black'. It comes directly from the Latin word 'niger', which also means 'black'. How it became an offensive word, I really don't know, because, in reality, saying 'Nigger' is really no different that saying 'Black'.

    KDE2 allows you to add/remove/edit/move anything on the K menu, regardless of who created it. And the changes only apply to you.

    I don't see why they couldn't - it sounds like it's just a new filesystem. If I can burn HFS CD's for my roommate on my (Linux/Intel) cd-burner, then why shouldn't I be able to burn CDAs?

    Try the Hacker's Diet. It REALLY works, trust me. Just do a search on /. for it. The only time I have trouble concentrating is when I haven't eaten in the morning, but that's sort of to be expected.

    IIRC, the guy who created the diet was the CEO of Autodesk and he said that it didn't impair his performance whatsoever, and he was actually MORE productive.

    I take it you haven't tried XFree86 4.

    XF86 4 FLIES in comparison to 3.3.x. Civ:CTP is nearly unplayable once you get to a certain point on my system (Celly 366, G400 MAX, 128MB RAM) under 3.3.6, but it zips along under 4.0.x.

    There's no problem whatsoever with speed under XF86 4. Anyone who says there is a problem is either lying or misguided.

    Okay... have you actually TRIED KDE2?

    Konqy rules as a FM - but there are still times when it's faster to use a command line.

    In fact, I'd guess that 95% of the time the command line is quicker than ANY file manager.

    But which will my mom use? It doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

    FYI, not every Christian is a fanatic. Take me, for example. ;)

    And also, Bush scored higher on his SATs than Gore did, and Gore dropped out of law school and (Christian!) divinity school because he smoked too much pot.

    By my estimation, it's more likely that Gore would be a stupid fanatic.
